The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 2.1.127, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 2.1.127 contained in Chapter 1—Vairagya (renunciation)—of Part two (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 2.1.127:

तद्-वाक्यं चानुसन्धाय जगद्-ईश्वर-साधकम् ।
तं मन्त्रं मन्यमानोऽहं तुष्यन् जप-परोऽभवम् ॥ १२७ ॥

tad-vākyaṃ cānusandhāya jagad-īśvara-sādhakam |
taṃ mantraṃ manyamāno'haṃ tuṣyan japa-paro'bhavam || 127 ||

tat-vākyam–his words; ca–and; anusandhāya–aiming at (following); jagat-īśvara–(the presence of) the Supreme Lord of the universe; sādhakam–capable of invoking; tam–that; mantram–divine vibration; manyamānaḥ–considering; aham–I; tuṣyan–feeling happy; japa-paraḥ–devoted to chanting; abhavam–I became.

Thereupon, remembering the brāhmaṇa’s words, I concluded that by means of this mantra, I would attain Śrī Jagadīśvara, the Supreme Lord of the universe. I was thus satisfied and began to chant it constantly.

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

Śrī Gopa-kumāra says, “Thereafter, I remembered Śrī Gurudeva’s words, ‘Accept this mercy of Śrī Jagadīśvara.’ After thoroughly deliberating upon this, I concluded that this mantra could directly bring me to Śrī Jagadīśvara, the Supreme Lord Himself, or bestow His mercy upon me. Happy to have realized this, I started chanting the mantra continuously.”
