The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 1.4.4, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 1.4.4 contained in Chapter 4—Bhakta (the devotee)—of Part one (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 1.4.4:

श्री-नारद उवाच—
दृष्टाश् चिरात् कृष्ण-कृपा-भरस्य पात्रं भवान् मे सफलः श्रमोऽभूत् ।
आबाल्यतो यस्य हि कृष्ण-भक्तिर् जाता विशुद्धा न कुतोऽपि यासीत् ॥ ४ ॥

śrī-nārada uvāca
dṛṣṭāś cirāt kṛṣṇa-kṛpā-bharasya pātraṃ bhavān me saphalaḥ śramo'bhūt |
ābālyato yasya hi kṛṣṇa-bhaktir jātā viśuddhā na kuto'pi yāsīt || 4 ||

Śrī Nārada said: O son, you alone are the recipient of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s profuse mercy. After such a long period of time, I have received your darśana. Today my efforts are successful. Since childhood your pure kṛṣṇa-bhakti has been apparent in you. This type of bhakti has never been seen anywhere before.

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

“Today my efforts are successful.” In other words, his study of the Vedas and everything fructified now. Furthermore, his pilgrimages from Prayāga to the extreme provinces in the South that he journeyed to were today fruitful. Thus, the symptoms of the recipient’s eligibility for the full mercy of Śrī Kṛṣṇa are made apparent, described here in these seven verses beginning with ābālyato (since childhood).

“O my son Prahlāda, since childhood your pure kṛṣṇa-bhakti has been born. Devotion like this to Śrī Kṛṣṇa has never been seen anywhere before.”
