The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 1.2.76, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 1.2.76 contained in Chapter 2—Divya (the celestial plane)—of Part one (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 1.2.76:

सम्प्रत्य् अपि मया तस्य स्वयं वत्सास् तथार्भकाः ।
वृन्दावने पाल्यमाना भोजने मायया हृताः ॥ ७६ ॥

sampraty api mayā tasya svayaṃ vatsās tathārbhakāḥ |
vṛndāvane pālyamānā bhojane māyayā hṛtāḥ || 76 ||

Just recently, even I myself, at the time of His sylvan lunch in Śrī Vṛndāvana, stole away His own cowherd boys and calves that were under His care with a vast display of my own illusory energy.

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

This occurrence, for example, indicates the effect of great offenses committed by others that come directly upon us. “At the time of the Lord partaking of His lunch, I stole away all the calves and cowherd boys who were so endeared to Him.”

This act discloses the great weight of one’s own offense. He is “the Supreme Personality who personally maintains and nourishes” (svayaṃ prabhura nija-pālyamānā), and “in Vṛndāvana,” (vṛndāvane), and is “accompanied by yogāmāyā” (māyāyā). From these words, the offense has been pointed out to be graver and more serious.
