by Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktivedānta Nārāyana Gosvāmī Mahārāja | 2005 | 440,179 words | ISBN-13: 9781935428329

The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 1.2.63, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 1.2.63 contained in Chapter 2—Divya (the celestial plane)—of Part one (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 1.2.63:

तद्-अर्थं भगवत्-पूजां कारयामि करोमि च ।
आवासो जगद्-ईशस्य तस्य वा न क्व विद्यते ॥ ६३ ॥

tad-arthaṃ bhagavat-pūjāṃ kārayāmi karomi ca |
āvāso jagad-īśasya tasya vā na kva vidyate || 63 ||

With the intent for liberation I worship Bhagavān myself and engage all others. Moreover, in which place does Jagadīśvara, the Lord of the universe, exist or not exist?

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

“O son, you have described the excellence of my worship of Bhagavān and that I have the symptoms of the mercy of Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa—this is not precise. The reason I worship Bhagavān is for liberation, not for the satisfaction of bhakti itself. This is not the symptom of the mercy of Bhagavān.

“Thereafter, to say, ‘my planet is in the midst of that Vaikuṇṭhaloka’ is also not very extraordinary. Where is there a place that Bhagavān does not reside? Regardless of the whereabouts, He is present everywhere, inside and outside. This refutes your words.”
