The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 1.2.21, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 1.2.21 contained in Chapter 2—Divya (the celestial plane)—of Part one (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 1.2.21:

त्रैलोक्य-ग्रास-कृद् वृत्र-वधार्थं प्रार्थितः पुरा ।
औदासीन्यं भजंस् तत्र प्रेरयामास मां परम् ॥ २१ ॥

trailokya-grāsa-kṛd vṛtra-vadhārthaṃ prārthitaḥ purā |
audāsīnyaṃ bhajaṃs tatra prerayāmāsa māṃ param || 21 ||

Previously, when I petitioned Bhagavān to kill Vṛtrāsura, who was devouring the three worlds, He also remained indifferent to me at that time instead of personally coming to my aid. Rather He encouraged me to undertake the task by myself.

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

In previous times, He dispatched me to the Sudharmā assembly on the earthly planet in order to slay Vṛtrāsura, not giving me the slightest, personal support in this matter.
