The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 1.1.43-44 contained in Chapter 1—Bhauma (the earthly plane)—of Part one (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 1.1.43-44:

विद्वद्-वरेण तेनोक्तो नन्व् इदं स महा-मुनिः ।
स्वामिन् किं मयि कृष्णस्य कृपा-लक्षणम् ईक्सितम् ॥ ४३ ॥
अहं वराकः को नु स्यां दातुं शक्नोमि वा कियत् ।
वैभवं वर्तते किं मे भगवद्-भजनं कुतः ॥ ४४ ॥

vidvad-vareṇa tenokto nanv idaṃ sa mahā-muniḥ |
svāmin kiṃ mayi kṛṣṇasya kṛpā-lakṣaṇam īksitam || 43 ||
ahaṃ varākaḥ ko nu syāṃ dātuṃ śaknomi vā kiyat |
vaibhavaṃ vartate kiṃ me bhagavad-bhajanaṃ kutaḥ || 44 ||

Having heard the words of Śrī Nārada, the exalted brāhmaṇa felt ashamed and said: O Prabhu, what are you saying? What symptoms of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s mercy have you seen in me? Whatever you say about me, I am certainly not that fit recipient. Moreover, regarding charity, what can I give? What opulence is mine? And where is the devotion to Śrī Bhagavān in me?

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

Hearing the words of Devarṣi Śrī Nārada, the wise, dignified brāhmaṇa began speaking to Śrī Nārada, “O Prabhu, I am not that fit candidate who you have spoken about. O Nārada, what signs of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s mercy have you seen in me? Rather, I do not have any symptom of His mercy in me.” While explaining the reason for this, he suggests, “I am a insignificant person, not the fit recipient of Bhagavān’s mercy. Besides, speaking of charity, what can I give, what opulences do I have, and furthermore, where is the bhakti in me?”
