English translation of the Brahma-sutra 2.3.44, including the commentary of Nimbarka and sub-commentary of Srinivasa known as Vedanta-parijata-saurabha and Vedanta-kaustubha resepctively. Also included are the comparative views of important philosophies, viz., from Shankara, Ramanuja, Shrikantha, Bhaskara and Baladeva.

Brahma-Sūtra 2.3.44

English of translation of Brahmasutra 2.3.44 by Roma Bose:

“And, moreover, (it is) declared by smṛti.”

Nimbārka’s commentary (Vedānta-pārijāta-saurabha):

It is declared by Smṛti also that the individual soul is a part of Brahman thus: ‘“A part of my own self, in the world of men, has become the individual soul, the eternal”’ (Gita 15.7[1]).

Śrīnivāsa’s commentary (Vedānta-kaustubha)

It has been declared in a Smṛti passage by the Highest Person Himself that the individual soul is a part of Brahman, thus: ‘“A part of my own self, in the world of men, has become the individual soul, the eternal”’ (Gītā 15.7).

Comparative views of Rāmānuja:

He omits the “ca”.[2]
