atharvavedatah From Atharvaveda (79) jyesthabrahmasuktam Jyestha-brahma-sukta yo bhutam ca bhavyam sarvam yascadhitisthati | . svaryasya ca kevalam tasmai jyesthaya brahmane namah ||1|| Yo bhutam ca bhavyam ca sarvam yascadhitisthati. Savaryasya ca kevalam tasmai jyesthaya Brahmane namah. ( 1 ) Who lines as the head of the past, the present and the future, whose form is only full of light, salutations to that jyestha Brahma. (1) skambheneme vistabhite dyausca bhumisca tisthatah | skambha idam sarvatmanvadyatpranannimisacca yat ||2|| Skambheneme vistabhite dyausca bhumisca tisthatah. (80) Dvadasa pradhayascakramekam trini nabhyani ka u tace'iketa. Tatrahatastrini sankavah sastisca khila avicacala ye. (4) There are twelve naves (pradhis), one wheel (C'akra), and three hubs (nabhis), who knows that ! There are three hundred and sixty pegs and hooks in the same numbers which are most tight. Ardhena visvam bhuvanam jajana yadasyardham kva tadbabhuva. (7) One wheel (cakra) has only one centre (madhyanabhi) associated with thousands of saws goes forward and backward. All the bhuvanas have been made by this half, and remaining other half of this is not known where it is?. (7) pancavahi vahatyapremesam prastayo yukta anusamvahanti | ayatamasya dadrse na yatam param nediyo'varam daviyah ||8||

(81) Pancavahi vahatyagremesam prastayo yukta anusamvahanti. Ayatamasya dadrse na yatam param nadiyo'varam daviyah. (8) Of these which is lifted by these five, reaches till end, the horses that have been yoked, they are lifting well. Their motionlessness is visible but motion is not visible and whatever is much far is much near and whatever is near, that is much far. (8) tiryagbilascamasa urdhvabudhnastasmin yaso nihitam visvarupam | tadasata rsayah sapta sakam ye asya gopa mahato babhuvuh || 9 || Tiryagbilascamasa urdhvabudhnastasmin yaso nihitam visvarupam. Tadasata rsayah sapta sakam ye asya gopa mahato babhuvuh. (9) There is a pot (God) with curved mouth and with a back on it in which there has been kept fame of various forms. There, are sitting seven seers who are the guardian of this great God. (9) ya purastadyujyate ya ca pascadya visvato yujyate yaca sarvatah | yaya yajnah prantayate tam tva prcchami katama sarcam ||10|| Ya purasatadyujyate ya ca pascadya visvato yujyate yaca sarvatah. Yaya yajnah prantayate tam tva prcchami katama sarcam. (10) That which is connected with the front and behind, which is.connected with all the sides and by all means, through which sacrifice (yajna) is spread towards the east. I ask you about it, which is it among the Rcas (Hymns) ?. (10) yadejati patati yacca tisthati pranadapranannimisacca yadbhavat | taddadhara prthivim visvarupam tatsambhuya tatsambhuya bhavatyekameva || 11|| Yadejati patati yacca tisthati pranadapranannimisacca yadbhavat. Taddadhara prthivim visvarupam tatsambhuya bhavatyekameva. (11) On that moves, falls and is stable, He who bearing the vitality is lifeless and whose eyes twinkle and one that occurs, that sattva the form of the universe bears on him this earth, unitedly, he is unique one. anantam vitatam (82) purutranantamantavacca samante | te nakapalascarati vicinvanvidvanbhutamuta bhavyamasya ||12|| Anantam vitatam purutranantamantavacc'a samante. Te nakapalascarati vicinvanvidvanbhutamuta bhavyamasya. (12) The infinite (annata) is spread everywhere, both endless (infinite) and the one with end are linked together. The giver of pleasure (jyestha Brahma) thinking about the past, the present and future substances and knowing them all which exists. (12) prajapatiscarati garbhe antaradrsyamano bahudha vi jayate | ardhena visvam bhuvanam jajana yadasyardha katamah sa ketuh || 13|| Prajapatiscarati garbhe antaradrsyamano bahudha vi jayate. Ardhena visvam jajana yadasyardham katamah sa ketuh. (13) Prajapati being invisible moves in the garbha (the interior) and he appears in various forms. He produces all bhuvanas with one half. That which is his other half, what is his token? (13) urdhva bharantamudakam kumbhenevodaharyam | pasyanti sarve caksusa na sarve manasa viduh || 14|| Urdhvam bharantamudakam kumbhenevodaharyam. Psyanti sarve caksusa na sarve manasa viduh. (14) As there is the 'kahara' carrying upwards the pitcher full of water, all see him physically but nobody knows him mentally. (14) dure purnena vasati unena dura hiyate | mahadyaksam bhuvanasya madhye tasmai balim rastrabhrto bharanti || 15 || Dure purnena vasati dura unena \hiyate. Mahadyaksam bhuvanasya madhye tasmai balim rastrabhrto bharanti. (15) Having been perfect he lives away, being insufficient also, he lives away. He is the great god worth worshipping, for Him national patriots make sacrifices. (15)

(83) yatah surya udetyastam yatra ca gacchati | tadeva manye'ham jyestham tadu natyeti kincana || 16 || Yatah surya udetyastam yatra ca gacc'hati. Tadeva manyeham jyestham tadu natyeti kimcana. ( 16 ) Wherefrom the Sun rises up and where he sets down that is the best, I think so, none can overlap Him. ( 16 ) ye arvad madhya uta va puranam vedam vidvamsamabhito vadanti | adityameva te pari vadanti sarve agnim dvitiyam trivrtam ca hamsam ||17|| Ye arvan madhya uta va puranam vedam vidvansamabhito vadanti. adityameva te pari vadanti sarve Agnim dvitiyam trivrtam ca hansar. (17) Those who praise modern, medieval and also ancient Veda knowing scholars from all sides, actually, they praise 'Aditya' and they also praise secondly 'Agni' and trifold (trivrta ) hansa. (17) sahasrahvayam viyatavasya paksau harerhasasya patatah svargam | sa devantsarvanurasyupadadya sampasyan yati bhuvanani visva || 18 || Sahasrahvayam viyatavasya paksau harerhansasya patatah svargam. Sa devantsarvanurasyupadadya sampasyan yati bhuvanani visva. (18) His both the wings remain stretched for thousand days while going to the heaven. Seeing all the bhuvanas. He goes having kept all the devas on his chest. (18) satyenordhvastapati brahmana'rvad vi pasyati | pranena tiryapranati yasmin jyesthamadhisritam || 19 || Satyenordhvastapati Brahmanarvan vi pasyati. Pranena tiryan pranati yasmin jyesthamadhisritam. (19) He who blazingly shines above by truth sees beneath by knowledge , breaths transversely by vital airs and in whom exists the supreme Brahma. (19) yo vai te vidyadarani yabhyo nirmathyate vasu | sa vidvan jyestham manyeta sa vidyad brahmanam mahat ||20||

(84) Yo vai te vidyadarani yabhyo nirmathyate vasu. Sa vidvan jyestham manyeta sa vidyad Brahmanam mahat. (20) One who knows both the wooden drills (Aranis) from which holy fire (vasu) is made. That learned one knows the senior most Brahma (Jyestha Brahma) and he knows the great Brahma also. (20) apada samabhavat so agre sva ramarat | catuspad bhutva bhogyah sarvamadatta bhojanam ||21|| Apadagre samabhavat so agre svarabharat. Catuspad bhutva bhogyah sarvamadatta bhojanam. (21) Initially, Atma without feet was one only. In the beginning He fulfilled self-joy. The same, began to enjoy all the foods. (21) bhogyo bhavadatho annamadadvahu | yo devamuttaravantamupaste sanatanam || 22|| Bhogyo bhavadatho annamadadbahu. Yo devamuttaravantamupaste sanatanam. (22) That who became consumable began to take plenty of food, whom worships the eternal and supreme deva. (22) sanatanamenamahurutadya syatpunarnavah | ahoratre prajayete anyo anyasya rupayoh || 23|| Sanatanamenamahurutadya syatpunarnavah. Ahoratre pra jayete anyo anyasya rupayoh. (23) He is called sanatana (the eternal) and he again becomes new to-day. From him there is day and night respectively (the form of the same is the day that becomes night and night that becomes day respectively). (23) satam sahasramayutam nyarbudamasamkhyeyam svamasminnivistam | tadasya ghnantyabhipasyata eva tasmaddevo rocata esa etat || 24 || Satam sahasramayutam nyarbudamasankhyeyam svamasminnivistam. Tadasya ghnantyabhipasyata eva tasmaddevo rocata esa etat. (24) There are hundred, thousand, lac or innumerable properties

(85) in Him. Seeing them that element hits and with this, that Deva lightens it. (24) baladekamaniyaskamutaikam naiva drsyate | tatah parisvajiyasi devata sa mama priya || 25 || Baladekamaniyaskamutaikam naiva drsyate. Tatah parisvajiyasi devata sa mama priya. (25) That one is thinner than hair and other one is not visible. Apart from that the deity that makes both embrace; is dear to me. (25) iyam kalyanyajara martyasmamrta grhe | yasmai krta saye sa yascakara jajara sah ||26|| Iyamkalyanyjara martyasmamrta grhe. . Yasmai krta sye sa yascakara jajara sah. (26) She, that sees welfare does not decay, is immortal in the house of mortal for whom it is done, lies and he who does, becomes old. (26) tvam stri tvam pumanasi tvam kumara uta va kumari | tvam jirno dandena vancasi tvam jato bhavasi visvatomukhah ||27|| Tvam stri tvam pumanasi tvam kumara uta va kumari. Tvam jirno dandena vancasi jato bhavasi visvatomukhah. ( 27 ) You are female and male also. You are boy and you are girl also. Being old you walk with the help of stick. When appeared you become all-pervading. (27) utaisam pitota va putra esamutaisam jyestha uta va kanisthah | eko ha devo manasi pravistah prathamo jatah sa u garbha antah ||28 || Utaisam pitota va putra esamutaisam jyestha uta va kanistbah. Eko ha devo manasi pravistah prathamo jatah sa u garbha antah. (28) Either his father or his son, either elder or younger among them, the only Deva is this all, entering the mind whatever he had been before, the same comes in the womb. (28)

(86) purnatpurnamudacyati purna purnena sicyate | uto tadadya vidyama yatastatparisicyate ||29|| Purnatpurnmudacyati purnam purnena sicyate. Uto tadadya vidyama yatastatparisicyate. (29) The perfect comes out of perfect, the perfect is irrigated by the perfect, now today, may we know where from he is irrigated?. (29) esa sanatni sanameva jataisa purani pari sarve babhuva | mahi devyusaso vibhati saikenaikena misata vi caste ||30|| Esa sanatni sanameva jataisa purani pari sarve babhuva. Mahi devyusaso vibhati saikenaikena misata vi caste. (30) That is the eternal power present in all times, this ancient power became everything, this great goddess enlightens the usas, she is visible with the creatures individually. (30) avirvai nama devatartenaste parivrta | tasya rupeneme vrksa harita haritasrajah || 31|| Avirvai nama devatartenaste parivrta. Tasya rupeneme vrksa harita haritasrajah ( 31 ) There is a goddess namely raksanakartri (the protector) she is surrounded by trees. These trees look green by her beauty having a green garland. (31) anti santam na jahatyanti santam na pasyati | devasya pasya kavyam na mamara na jiryati ||32|| Anti santam na jahatyanti santam na pasyati. - Devasya pasya kavyam na mamara na jiryati. (32) Being near, he does not leave and is not seen, even when, he is near. See the poetry of the deva, who neither expires nor becomes old. (32) apurvenesita vacasta vadanti yathayatham | vadantiryatra gacchanti tadahurbrahmanam mahat ||33|| .

(87) Apurvenesita vacasta vadanti yathayatham. Vadantiryatra gacchanti tadahurbrahmanari mahat. ( 33 ) Previous to whom there is none. These are the speeches motivated by this god. Those speeches describe the same as is proper. Speaking where they reach, that is great 'Brahma' it is said. (33) yatra devasca manusyascara nabhaviva sritah | apam tva puspam prcchami yatra tanmayaya hitam ||34|| Yatra devasca manusyascara nabhaviva sritah. Apam tva puspam prcchami yatra tanmayaya hitam ( 34 ) Where gods and human beings are set up like the spokes in the nave (of a wheel). I ask you about the flower of that element the water where he lives covered by 'maya'. (34) yebhirvata isitah pravati ye dadante panca disah sanicih | ya ahutimatyamenyanta deva apam netarah katame ta asan ||35|| Yebhirvata istah pravati ye dadante panc' adisah sadhricih. Divapresam dadate yo vidharta visva asah pratiraksantyeke. (36) One of those, lives on earth, one pervades in the space of those, one who is bearer bears dyuloka, and all others protect the directions. (36) yo vidyatsutram vitatam yasminrotah praja imah | sutram sutrasraya yo vidyatsa vidyad brahmanam mahat ||37|| Yo vidyatsutram vitatam yasminnotah praja imah. Sutram sutrasya yo vidyat sa vidyad Brahmanam mahat. (37)

(88) In whom all offsprings are linked, who knows this extended Sutra and also knows the sutra of sutra (maxim), knows the great Brahma. ( 37 ) vedaham sutram vitatam yasminnotah praja imah | sutram sutrasyaham vedarthom yadbrahmanam mahat || 38|| Vedahamm sutram vitatam yasminnotah praja imah. Sutram sutrasyaham vedartho yadbrahmanam mahat. ( 38 ) In whom all these offsprings are linked I know this extended sutra. I also know the sutra of sutra and Brahma who is great. I know him too. (38) yadantara dyavaprthivi agniraitpradahanvisvadavyah | yatratisthannekapatnih parastat kvevasinmatarisva tadanim ||39|| Yadantara dyavaprthivi agniraitpradahanvisvadavyah. yatratisthannekapatnih parastat kvevasinmatarisva tadanim. (39) Agni, who is the director of the world amidst dyuloka and earth, where there is only one wife (wife of Agni) where was the wind then? (39) apsvasinmatarisva pravistah pravista devah salilanyasan | brhanha tasthau rajaso vimanah pavamano harita a vivesa || 40 || Apsvasinmatarisva pravistah pravista devah salilanyasan. (40) Vayu (the wind) entered the water, all the devas (the gods) entered the water, that time only He was the special evidence of rajas and the wind was with the rays of the Sun.(40) uttareneva gayatrimamrte'dhi vicakrame | sanma ye same samvidurajastaddadrse kva ||41|| Uttareneva gayatrimamrtedhi vi cakrame. Sanma ye same samvidurajastaddadrse kva. (41) They obtain 'gayatri' in special way in the higher form of nector, who know 'sama' from 'sama' where did the birthless see that? (41)

(89) nivesanah samgamano vasunam deva iva savita satyadharma | indro na tasthau samare dhananam ||42|| Nivesanah sangamano vasunam deva iva savita satyadharma. dhananam. (42) Indro na tasthau samare Associated with the religion of birth savita, like god, is the donor of all riches and the cause of existence in the struggle of wealths he remains stable like Indra. (43) akamo dhiro amrtah svayambhu rasena trpto na kutascanonah | tameva vidvanna bibhaya mrtyoratmanam dhiramajaram yuvanam || 44 || Akamo dhiro amrtah svayambhu rasena trpto na kutascanomah. Tameva vidvanna bibhaya mrtyoratmanam dhiramajaram yuvanam. (44) That god free from desires, patients, immortal, self begotten satisfied by rasa, by no means short the wise who knows Him does not fear from death because he the patient and one that is never old, is the young Soul.
