Chapter 4 - Hiranyagarbha-sukta
hiranyagarbhasuktam (r. 10 /121 ) Hiranyagarbha-sukta (Rgveda 10/121) hiranyagarbhah samavartatagre bhutasya jatah patireka asit | sa dadhara prthivim dyamutemam kasmai devaya havisa vidhema ||1|| Hiranyagarbhah samavartatagre, bhutasya jatah patireka asiit sa dadhara prthvim dyamutemam kasmai devaya havisa vidhemaa (1). Hiranyagarbha was produced in the beginning of this universe. He was the only Lord of all beings. It is he who held the earth and the space and all these we worship the God Ka (Prajapati) with oblation. (1) ya atmada balada yasya visva upasate prasisam yasya devah | yasya cchayamrtam yasya mrtyuh kasmai devaya havisa vidhema ||2|| Ya atmada balada yasya visva upasate prasisam yasya devah. Yasya cchayamrtam yasya mrtyuh kasmai devaya ahavisa vidhema. (2). Who is giver of vital breath, who is the giver of intuition and power, whose order the gods carryout that is, all people obey whose rule, whose shadow is immortality and death. we worship that God Ka with oblation. (2) yah pranato nimisato mahitvaika idraja jagato babhuva | ya ise asya dvipadascatuspadah kasmai devaya havisa vidhema ||3|| Yah pranato nimisato mahitvaika Idraja jagato babhuva. Ya Ise asya dvipadascatuspadah kasmai devaya havisa vidhema. (3). One who is the only King of the whole world of the living mobile creatures and the stable because of His great competence or by influence of His glory and one who is the master of the fourfooted creatures animals etc. and also the lord of two footed creatures man etc., we worship that God Ka with oblation. (3) rasaya sahahuh | yasyeme himavanto mahitva yasya yasyemah pradiso yasya bahu kasmai devaya havisa vidhema ||4||
(66) Yasyeme himavanto mahitva yasya samudram rasaya ⚫ahahuh. Yasycmah pradiso yasya bahu kasmai devaya havisa vidhema. (4). Whose grandeur the snowy mountains, whose the oceans with the earth (Rasa) they say; whose these quarters, whose the arms (mid-quarters). We worship that God Ka with oblation. (4) prajapati ke visvanirmana sambandhi karya (Works of Prajapati) yena dyaurugra prthivi ca drlaha yena svah stabhitam yena nakah | yo antarikse rajaso vimanah kasmai devaya havisa vidhema ||5|| Yena dyaurugra prthivi ca drlha yena svah stabhitam yena nakah. Yo antariksc rajaso vimanah kasmai devayahavisa vidhema. (5). By whom this space became strong and the earth is firmly established, who established the svarloka (the heaven ) and (he) who established the Sun in the space and who is measuring-the regions in the space or creating water in sky. We worship that God Ka with oblation. (5) yam krandasi avasa tastabhane abhyaiksetam manasa rejamane | yatradhi sura udito vibhati kasmai devaya havisa vidhema ||6|| Yan krandasi avasa tastabhane abhyaiksetam manasa rejmane. Yatradhi sura udito vibhati kasmai devaya havisa vidhema. (6). Whom sky and earth propped to protect (the beings) shining, loka with their mind; where upon the risen sun shines. We worship that God with oblation. (6) apo ha yad brhatirvisvamayan garbha dadhana janayantiragnim | tato devanam samavartatasurekah kasmai devaya havisa vidhema ||7|| Apo ha yad brhatirvisvamayan garbham dadhana janayantiragnim. Tato devanam samavartatasurekah kasmai devaya havisa vidhema . (7) . The great waters, which swept over the world bearing the germ and generating Agni (fire) etc. therefrom the sole breath-

(7) yascidapo mahina paryapasyad daksam dadhana janayantiryajnam | yo devesvadhi deva eka asit kasmai devaya havisa vidhema ||8|| Yascidapo mahina prayapasyad daksam dadhana Janayantiryayajnam. Yo devesvadhideva eka asit kasmai devayahavisa vidhema. (8). Who with his greatness saw over the waters bearing the generative force producing the sacrifice; who was the sole God over all gods. We worship that God Ka with oblation. (8) ma no himsijjanita yah prthivya yo va divam satyadharma jajana | yascapascandra brhatirjajana kasmai devaya havisa vidhema || 9 || Ma no hinsijjanita yah prthivya yo va divam satyadharma jajana. Yascapascandra brhatirjajana kasmai devaya havisa vidhema. (9). May he not injure us, who is the creator of this earth, he whose laws are true, who is the creating factor of divine and he who is the creator of pleasure giving unending vast water also. We worship that God Ka with oblation. (9) usa prajapati se svakiya manorathom ki purti ki iccha- (Willingness to obtain all the wishes from the Prajapati) prajapate na tvadetanyanyo visva jatani pari ta babhuva | yat kamaste juhumastanno astu vayam syama patayo rayinam ||10|| Prajapate na tvadetanyanyo visva jatani pari ta babhuva. Yatkamaste juhumastanno astu vayam syama patayo rayirnam. (10). O Prajapati! who other than you may keep alive the universe, the substances of the past, present and the future, that is, you are omnipresent.
