The Bhajana-rahasya Text 1, English translation, including commentary (vritti). The Bhajana-rahasya is a compilation of verses describing the mercy of the eight pairs of names (Yugala-nama) of the Maha-mantra. This is text 1 belonging to the chapter “Shashtha-yama-sadhana (Sayam-kaliya-bhajana–bhava)” representing six dandas after dusk: approximately 6.00 p.m.–8.30 p.m.

The sixth verse of Śrī Śikṣāṣṭaka describes the visible manifestations of perfection:

नयनं गलद्-अश्रु-धारया वदनं गद्गद-रुद्धया गिरा
पुलकैर् निचितं वपुः कदा तव नाम-ग्रहणे भविष्यति

nayanaṃ galad-aśru-dhārayā vadanaṃ gadgada-ruddhayā girā
pulakair nicitaṃ vapuḥ kadā tava nāma-grahaṇe bhaviṣyati

O Lord, when will tears f low from my eyes, my voice falter and all the hairs on my body stand erect as I chant Your holy names?

prema dhana vinā vyartha daridra jīvana
dāsa’ kari’ vetana more deha prema-dhana

“Without the wealth of prema, life is wretched and useless. O Lord, please accept me as Your servant and grant me the wealth of prema as my salary.”
