Bhajana-Rahasya

The Bhajana-rahasya Text 33, English translation, including commentary (vritti). The Bhajana-rahasya is a compilation of verses describing the mercy of the eight pairs of names (Yugala-nama) of the Maha-mantra. This is text 33 belonging to the chapter “Dvitiya-yama-sadhana (Pratah-kaliya-bhajana)” representing the first six dandas of the morning: approximately 6.00 a.m.–8.30 a.m.

Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (11.21.2) states:

स्वे स्वे’धिकारे या निष्ठा स गुणः परिकीर्तितः
विपर्ययस् तु दोषः स्याद् उभयोर् एष निश्चयः

sve sve’dhikāre yā niṣṭhā sa guṇaḥ parikīrtitaḥ
viparyayas tu doṣaḥ syād ubhayor eṣa niścayaḥ

To have unyielding steadiness on the path of dharma, according to one’s own qualification, is a virtue; conversely, to make endeavours that do not accord with one’s qualification is a fault.

अधिकार सुसम्मत कार्ये हय गुण
विपरीत कार्ये दोष बुझिबे निपुण

adhikāra susammata kārye haya guṇa
viparīta kārye doṣa bujhibe nipuṇa

Commentary: Bhajana-rahasya-vṛtti:

The purport of this verse is that virtue and vice are determined according to one’s qualification, and not by any other criteria.
