The Bhajana-rahasya Text 36, English translation, including commentary (vritti). The Bhajana-rahasya is a compilation of verses describing the mercy of the eight pairs of names (Yugala-nama) of the Maha-mantra. This is text 36 belonging to the chapter “Prathama-yama-sadhana (Nishanta-bhajana–shraddha)” representing the last six dandas of the night: approximately 3.30 a.m.–6.00 a.m.

The Bhāgavan-nāma-kaumudī (3rd chapter) states:

नक्तं दिवा च गत-भिर् जित-निद्र एको निर्विण्ण ईक्षित-पथो मित-भुक् प्रशान्तः
यद्य् अच्युते भगवति स्व-मनो न सज्जेन् नामानि तद्-रति-कराणि पठेद् विलज्जः

naktaṃ divā ca gata-bhir jita-nidra eko nirviṇṇa īkṣita-patho mita-bhuk praśāntaḥ
yady acyute bhagavati sva-mano na sajjen nāmāni tad-rati-karāṇi paṭhed vilajjaḥ

If your mind is not absorbed in the name of Śrī Bhagavān Acyuta, then day and night without shyness chant those principal names that are endowed with rati (such as Rādhā-ramaṇa, Vraja-vallabha and Gopījana-vallabha). Minimise sleep, eat moderately, and proceed on the path of spiritual truth with a peaceful mind and a disregard for worldly things.

रात्र दिन उन्निद्र निर्विघ्न निर्भय
मित-भुक् प्रशान्त निर्जने चिन्तामय

rātra dina unnidra nirvighna nirbhaya
mita-bhuk praśānta nirjane cintāmaya

लज्जा त्यजि कृष्ण-रति उद्दीपक नाम
उच्चारण करे भक्त कृष्णासक्ति काम

lajjā tyaji kṛṣṇa-rati uddīpaka nāma
uccāraṇa kare bhakta kṛṣṇāsakti kāma
