Verse 15.3-4

na rūpamasyeha tathopalabhyate
nānto na cādirna ca saṃpratiṣṭhā |
aśvatthamenaṃ suvirūḍhamūlam
asaṅgaśastreṇa dṛḍhena chittvā ||3||

tataḥ padaṃ tatparimārgitavyaṃ
yasmin gatā na nivartanti bhūyaḥ |
tameva cādyaṃ puruṣaṃ prapadye
yataḥ pravṛttiḥ prasṛtā purāṇī ||4||

kiṃ ca, na rūpamiti | iha saṃsāre sthitaiḥ prāṇibhirasya saṃsāravṛkṣasya tathordhvamūlatvādiprakāreṇa rūpaṃ nopalabhyate | na cānto'vasānamaparyaptatvāt | na cādiranāditvāt | na ca sampratiṣṭhā sthitiḥ | kathaṃ tiṣṭhatīti nopalabhyate | yasmādevambhūto'yaṃ saṃsāravṛkṣo durucchedo'narthakaraśca tasmādenaṃ dṛḍhena vairāgyena śastreṇa cchitvā tattvajñāne yatetetyāha aśvatthamenamiti sārdhena | enamaśvatthaṃ suvirūḍhamūlamatyantabaddhamūlaṃ santam | asaṅgaḥ saṅgarāhityamahaṃmamatātyāgaḥ | tena śastreṇa dṛḍhena samyagvicāreṇa cchittvā pṛthakkṛtya ||3||

śayānaṃ prapadye śaraṇaṃ gato'smītyevaṃ tadekaśaraṇatayā tadanveṣṭavyamityarthaḥ | taṃ kaṃ puruṣaṃ ? yato yasmātpuruṣātpravṛttirmāyāmayasaṃsāravṛkṣapravṛttiḥ purāṇī cirantanyanādireṣā prasṛtā niḥsṛtaindrajālikādiva māyāhastyādi taṃ puruṣaṃ prapadya ityanvayaḥ ||4||

kiṃ ceha manuṣyaloke'sya rūpaṃ svarūpaṃ tathā saniścayaṃ nopalabhyate satyo'yaṃ mithyāyaṃ nityo'yamiti vādimatavaividhyāditi bhāvaḥ | na cānto'paryantatvānna cādiranāditvān na ca sampratiṣṭhāśrayaḥ | kiṃ vādhāraḥ ko'yamityapi nopalabhyate tattvajñānābhāvāditi bhāvaḥ | yathā tathāyaṃ bhavatu jīvamātraduḥkhaikanidānasyāsya chedakaṃ śastramasaṅgaṃ jñātvā tenaitaṃ chittvaivāsya mūlatalastho mahānidhiranveṣṭavya ityāha aśvatthamiti | asaṅgo'nāsaktiḥ sarvatra vairāgyamiti yāvattena śastreṇa kuṭhāreṇa cchitvā svataḥ pṛthakkṛtya tatastasya mūlabhūtaṃ

na rūpamiti asyāśvatthasya rūpamiha manuṣyaloke tathā nopalabhyate yathordhvamūlatvādidharmakatayā mayopavarṇitam | na cāsyānto nāśa upalalabhyate | kathamayaṃ anarthavrātajaṭilo vinaśyediti na jñāyate | na cāsyādikāraṇamupalabhyate | kuto'yamīdṛśo jāto'stīti | na cāsya sampratiṣṭhā samāśrayo'pyupalabhyate | kiṃ samāśrayo'yaṃ satiṣṭhatiti |

kintu manusyoo'haṃ putro yajñadattasya,, pitā ca devadattasya, tadanurūpakarmakārī sukhī duḥkhī, sāsmin deśe'smin grāme nivasāmītyetāvadeva vijñāyata ityarthaḥ | yasmādevaṃ durbodho'narthavrate hetuścāyamaśvatthastasmātsatprasaṅgalabdhavastuyāthātmyajñānenainamasaṅgaśastreṇa vairāgyakuṭhāreṇa dṛḍhena vivekābhyāsaniśitena cchitvā svataḥ pṛthakkṛtya tatpadaṃ parimārgitavyamiti pareṇānvayaḥ | saṅgo viṣayābhilāṣastadvirodhyasaṅgo vairāgyaṃ, tadeva śastraṃ tadabhilāṣanāśakatvātsuvirūḍhamūlaṃ pūrvoktarītyātyantaṃ baddhamūlam | tataḥ saṃsārāśvatthamūlāduparisthitaṃ tatpadaṃ parimārgitavyaṃ

tatpadaṃ kīdṛśaṃ tatrāha yasminniti | yasmin gatāstaiḥ sādhanairyatprāptā janāstato na nivartante svargādiva na patanti | mārgaṇavidhimāha tameveti | yataḥ purāṇī cirantanīyaṃ jagatpravṛttiḥ prasṛtā vistṛtā | tameva cādyaṃ puruṣaṃ prapadye śaraṇaṃ vrajāmīti prapattipūrvakaiḥ śravaṇādibhistanmārgaṇamuktam | yo jagaddheturyatporapattyā saṃsāranivṛttiḥ sa khalu kṛṣṇa eva ahaṃ sarvasya prabhavaḥ ityādeḥ | daivī hyeṣā guṇamayī ityādeśca tadukteḥ | na tadbhāsayata ityādinā vyaktībhāvitvācca ||34||
