asmādeva samyagvyavasāyātsa hitvā durācāratāṃ kṣipramiti | cirakālamadharmātmāpi madbhajanamahimnā kṣipraṃ śīghrameva bhavati dharmātmā dharmānugatcitto durācāratvaṃ jhaṭityeva tyaktvā sadācāro bhavatītyarthaḥ | kiṃ ca śaśvannityaṃ śāntiṃ viṣayabhogaspṛhānivṛttiṃ nigacchati nitarāṃ prāpnotyatinirvedāt |

kaścittvadbhaktaḥ prāgabhyastaṃ durācāratvamatyajanna bhavedapi dharmātmā | tathā ca sa naśyedeveti netyāha bhaktānukampāparavaśatayā kupita iva bhagavān | naitadāścaryaṃ manvīthā he kaunteya niścitamevedṛśaṃ madbhaktermāhātmyam | ato vipratipannānāṃ purastādapi tvaṃ pratijānīhi sāvajñaṃ sagarvaṃ ca pratijñāṃ kuru | na me vāsudevasya bhatko'tidurācāro'pi prāṇasaṅkaṭamāpanno'pi sudurlabhamayogyaḥ san prārtahaymāno'pi atimūḍho'śaraṇo'pi na praṇaśyati kiṃ tu kṛtārtha eva bhavatīti | dṛṣṭāntāścājāmilaprahlādadhruvagajendrādayaḥ prasiddhā eva | śāstraṃ ca na vāsudevabhaktānāmaśubhaṃ vidyate kvacititi ||31||

nanu tādṛśasyādharmiṇaḥ kathaṃ bhajanaṃ tvaṃ gṛhṇāsi ? kāmakrodhādidūṣitāntaḥkaraṇena niveditamannapānādikaṃ kathamaśnāsītyata āha kṣipraṃ śīghrameva sa dharmātmā bhavati | atra kṣipraṃ bhāvī sa dharmātmā śaśvacchāntiṃ gamiṣyatīti aprayujya bhavati gacchatīti vartamānaprayogātadharmakaraṇānantarameva māmanusmṛtya kṛtānutāpaḥ kṣiprameva dharmātmā bhavati | hanta hanta mattulyaḥ ko'pi bhaktalokaṃ kalaṅkayannadhamo nāsti | tadvidyāmiti śaśvatpunaḥ punarapi śāntiṃ nirvedaṃ nitarāṃ gacchati | yadvā kiyataḥ samayādanantaraṃ
tasya bhāvi dharmātmatvaṃ tadānīmapi sūkṣmarūpeṇa vartata evaṃ tanmanasi bhakteḥ preveśātyathā pīte mahauṣadhi sati tadānīṃ kiyakālaparyantaṃ naśyadavastho jvaradāho viṣadāho vartamāno'pi na gaṇyata iti dhvaniḥ |

tataśca tasya bhaktasya durācāratvagamakāḥ kāmakrodhādyā utkhātadaṃṣṭroragadaṃśavadakiñcitkarā eva jñeyā iti anudhvaniḥ | ataeva śaśvatsarvadaiva śāntiṃ kāmakrodhādyupaśamaṃ nitarāṃ gacchatyatiśayena prāpnotīti durācāratvadaśāyāmapi sa śuddhāntaḥkaraṇa eva ucyata iti bhāvaḥ |

nanu yadi sa dharmātmā syāttadā nāsti ko'pi vivādaḥ | kintu kaściddurācārabhakto maraṇaparyantamapi durācāratvaṃ na jahāti, tasya vārtā ityato bhaktavatsalo bhagavān saprauḍhi sakopamivāha kaunteyeti | mama bhakto na praṇaśyati | tadapi prāṇanāśe adhaḥpātaṃ na yāti | kutarkakarkaśavādino naitanmanyeranniti śokaśaṅkāvyākulamarjunaṃ protsāhayati he kaunteya paṭahakāhalādimahāghoṣapūrvakaṃ vivadamānānāṃ sabhāṃ gatvā bāhumutkṣipya niḥśaṅkaṃ pratijānīhi pratijñāṃ kuru | katham ? me mama parameśvarasya bhakto durācāro'pi na praṇeśyetyapi tu kṛtārtha eva bhavati | tataśca te taṃ prauḍhivijṛmbhitavidhvaṃsitakutarkāḥ santo

nanu kathaṃ bhagavān svayamapratijñāya pratijñātumarjunamevātidideśa | yathaivāgre māmevaiṣyasi satyaṃ te pratijāne priyo'si me iti vakṣyate | tathaivātrāpi kaunteya pratijāne'haṃ na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati iti kathaṃ noktam ? ucyate bhagavatā tadānīmeva vicāritaṃ bhaktavatsalena mayā svabhaktāpakarṣaleśamapyasahiṣṇunā svapratijñāṃ khaṇḍayitvāpi svāpakarṣamaṅgīkṛtyāpi bhaktapratijñaiva rakṣitā bahutra | yathā tatraiva bhīṣmayuddhe svapratijñāmapyapākṛtya bhīṣmapratijñaiva rakṣiṣyate, bahirmukhā vādino vaitaṇḍikā matpratijñāṃ śrutvā hasiṣyanti arjunapratijñā tu pāṣāṇarekhaiveti te pratiyanti
