duḥkhadaurmanasyāṅgamejayatvaśvāsapraśvāsā vikṣepasahabhuvaḥ [YogaS 1.31] duḥkhaṃ cittasya rājasaḥ pariṇāmo bādhanālakṣaṇaḥ | taccādhyātmikaṃ śārīraṃ mānasaṃ ca vyādhivaśātkāmādivaśācca bhavati | ādhibhautikaṃ grahapīḍādijanitaṃ dveṣākhyaviparyayahetutvātsamādhivirodhi | daurmanasyamicchāvighātādibalavadduḥkhānubhavajanitaścittasya tāmasaḥ pariṇāmaviśeṣaḥ kṣobhāparaparyāyaḥ stabdhībhāvaḥ | sa tu kaṣāyatvāllayavatsamādhivirodhī | aṅgamejayatvamaṅgakampanamāsanasthairyavirodhi | prāṇena bāhyasya vāyorantaḥpraveśanaṃ

abhyāsavairāgyābhyāmantarāyanivṛttau kartavyāyāmabhyāsadārḍhyārthamāha tatpratiṣedhārthamekatattvābhyāsaḥ [YogaS 1.32] | teṣāmantarāyāṇāṃ pratiṣedhārtahmekasmin kasmiṃścidabhimate tattve'bhyāsaścetasaḥ punaḥ punarniveśanaṃ kāryam | tathā maitrīkaruṇāmuditopekṣaṇāṃ sukhaduḥkhapuṇyāpuṇyaviṣayāṇāṃ bhāvanātaścittaprasādanam [YogaS 1.33] | maitrī sauhārdaṃ, karuṇā kṛpā, muditā harṣaḥ, upekṣaudāsīnyam, sukhādiśabdaistadvantaḥ pratipādyante | sarvaprāṇiṣu sukhasambhogāpanneṣu sādhvetanmama mitrāṇāṃ sukhitvamiti maitrīṃ bhāvayet
| na tvīrṣyām | duḥkhiteṣu kathaṃ nu nāmaiṣā duḥkhanivṛttiḥ syāditi kṛpāmeva bhāvayet | nopekṣāṃ na harṣam | puṇyavatsu puṇyānumodanena harṣaṃ kuryānna tu vidveṣaṃ na copekṣām | apuṇyavatsu caudāsīnyameva bhāvayennānumodanaṃ na dveṣam | evamasya bhāvayataḥ śuklo dharma upajāyate | tataśca vigatarāgadveṣādimalaṃ cittaṃ prasannaṃ sadekāgratāyogyaṃ bhavati | maitryādicatuṣṭayaṃ copalakṣaṇamabhayaṃ sattvasaṃśuddhirityādīnāmamānitvamadambhitvamityādīnāṃ
ca dharmāṇām, sarveṣāmeteṣāṃ śubhavāsanārūpatvena malinavāsanānivartakatvāt | rāgadveṣau mahāśatrū sarvapuruṣārthapratibandhakau mahatā prayatnena parihartavyāvityetatsūtrārthaḥ |

evamanye'pi prāṇāyāmādaya upāyāścittaprasādanāya darśitāḥ | tadetaccittaprasādanaṃ bhagavadanugraheṇa yasya jātaṃ taṃ pratyevaitadvacanam sukheneti | anyathā manaḥpraśamānupapatteḥ ||28||
