janakādayo janakājātaśatruprabhṛtayaḥ śrutismṛtiprasiddhāḥ kṣatriyā vidvāṃso'pi karmaṇaiva saha na tu karmatyāgena sa saṃsiddhiṃ śravaṇādisādhyāṃ jñānaniṣṭhāmāsthitāḥ prāptāḥ | hi yasmādevaṃ tasmāttvamapi kṣatriyo vividiṣurvidvān karma kartumarhasītyanuṣaṅgaḥ | brāhmaṇaḥ putraiṣaṇāyāśca vittaṣaṇāyāśca lokaiṣaṇāyāśca vyutthāyātha bhikṣācaryaṃ caranti iti saṃnyāsavidhāyake vākye brāhmaṇatvasya vivakṣitatvāt | svārājyakāmo rājā rājasūyena yajeta ityatra kṣatriyatvāvat | catvāra āśramā brāhmaṇasya trayo rājan yasya dvau vaiśyasya

mukhajānāmayaṃ dharmo yadviṣṇorliṅgadhāraṇam |

sarve rājāśritā dharmā rājā dharmasya dhārakaḥ ityādi smṛtervarṇāśramapravartakatvenāpi kṣatriyo'vaśyaṃ karma kuryādityāha loketi | lokānāṃ sve sve dharme pravartanamunmārgānnivartanaṃ ca lokasaṅgrahastaṃ paśyannapiśabdājjanakādiśiṣṭācāramapi paśyan karma kartumarhasyevetyanvayaḥ | kṣatriyajanmaprāpakeṇa karmaṇārabdhaśarīrastvaṃ vidvānapi janakādivatprārabdhakarmaphalena lokasaṅgrahārthaṃ karma kartuṃ yogyo bhavasi na tu tyaktuṃ brāhmaṇajanmālābhādityabhiprāyaḥ | etādṛśabhagavadabhiprāyavidā bhagavatā bhāṣyakṛtā brāhmaṇasyaiva saṃnyāso nānyasyeti nirṇītam | vārtikakṛtā tu prauḍhivādamātreṇa kṣatriyavaiśyayor

nanu saniṣṭhasyātmāvalokane karmānuṣṭhānaṃ nāstītyuktam | mama pariniṣṭhitasyāvalokitasvaparātmanaḥ karmopadeśaḥ kuta iti cettatrāha loketi | satyaṃ tvamīdṛśa eva tathāpi lokasaṅgrahāya karma kurviti arjune mayi karma kurvāṇe sarvalokaḥ karma kariṣyati | itarathā maddṛṣṭāntenājño'pi lokaḥ karma tyajan patiṣyatīti lokasaṃrakṣaṇaṃ tatphalam ||20||
