āgamādīnāṃ vaiṣamyamanilajvare liṅgamiti yojyam| jvarasyāgamaḥsantāpārambhaḥ-tasya vaiṣamyaṃ ṣiraḥprabhṛtīnāmaṅgānāṃ na yugapatsantāpaḥ, api tu kadācidasya ṣirasi pūrvamāgacśati kadācidaṃsayoḥ pādayorveti| apagamojvarasya mokṣaḥ, tasya vaiṣamyaṃ-kadācidasya pūrvaṃ pādayoḥ santāpamokṣaḥ kadācittrike kadācicśirasi santāpasya muktiriti| tathā, kṣobhamṛdutayorvaiṣamyaṃkadācittīvraḥ santāpaḥ kadācinmṛduriti| vedanā jvarasya tāstāḥ, tāsāṃ vaiṣamyaṃ-na yugapatsarvāṅgīṇo vedanopalambhaḥ, api tu kvacit kadācit kasmiṃṣcidaṅga iti| tathā, jvarasya ya ūṣmā-santāpaḥ, tasyāpi vaiṣamyāt kadācicśirasyasya santāpa upalabhyate kadācit pādādyanyatame'ṅge| tatratatrāṅge-bāhuṣiraḥprabhṛtau, tāstā vedanāḥ-pādayoḥ suptatādyā vakṣyamāṇāḥ, calāḥanavasthitāḥ syuḥ, vāyoṣcalarūpatvāt| evāha-pādayorityādi|15 pādayoḥ suptiḥ-niṣcetanatvam, nakhakṣatādikamapi na cetayetāṃ tāvityarthaḥ| stambhaḥ-stabdhatā, tayoreva| piṇḍikayorudveṣṭanaṃ-udveṣṭaḥ| ṣramaḥ-khedaḥ| sandhīnāṃ vicśedanamiva| ūrvoḥ sādaḥ-svakriyāyāmasamarthatvam| kaṭyā grahaḥ-stambha iva| pṛṣṭhaṃ kṣodamiva-saṃkṣuṇṇatāmiva,20 āpnoti, saṃkṣuṇṇasasyādivat| niṣpīḍyata ivodaraṃ-piṇyākādivat| śidyanta ivāsthīni-karapatrādinā kāṣṭhādivat| atiṣayena pārṣvagānyasthīni śidyanta iva| tathā, hṛdayasya grahaṇam| vakṣasaḥ-urasaḥ, prājaneneva-pratodeneva, todovyathanam| skandhayormanthanaṃ-araṇeriva| bāhvorbhedovidāraṇamiva| aṃsayoḥ pīḍanaṃ-tailādipīḍanakāṣṭhairiva| hanvorbhakṣaṇe'sāmarthyam| tathā, jṛmbhaṇādīni syuḥ| virasāsyatā-avyaktarasatvaṃ, mukhasya bhavati, yena madhurādyanyatamaṃ rasaṃ na niṣcinoti| athavā kaṣāyarasatvaṃ vaktrasya| malānāṃ-mūtrapurīṣādīnāṃ, apravartanaṃavisargaḥ| rūkṣatvamaruṇatvaṃ ca tvagādīnāṃ bhavati, rogasvabhāvāt| tathā, prasekādayaḥ syuḥ| atha, arocakāśraddhayoḥ ko viṣeṣaḥ| brūmaḥ| arocakena vaktrasthamapi na bhuṅkte| aṣraddhayā tu kevalaṃ nābhilaṣati mukhasthaṃ tu bhakṣayatyeveti viṣeṣaḥ| viṣāditā-viṣaṇṇatvaṃ duḥkhitatvam| romādīnāṃ harṣo, vepathvādayaṣca vātajvare syuḥ| sa0-pittajvare yugapat-tulyakālaṃ, aṅgānāṃ vyāptiḥ-ṣiraḥ-prabhṛtīnyaṅgāni santāpenaikakālaṃ vyāpyante| na tu vātajvara ivāgamādīnāṃ vaiṣamyamiti vyāptigrahaṇena dyotayati| pralāpaḥ-asambaddhavacanasyoktiḥ| kaṭuvaktratā-kaṭukarasatvamāsye| tathā, nāsāyāmāsye ca pākaḥ| tathā, ṣītecśādayo'tra bhavanti| maṇḍalākārā nirmukhāḥ piṭikāḥ koṭhā ityucyante| nanu, doṣāstrayo'pi jvaraṃ nivartayantītyuktam| pittajvare ca pittena yuktasya kāyāgnerbhūyo vṛddhyā bhāvyam, nāgnimāndyena, "vṛddhiḥ samānaiḥ sarveṣāṃ"(hṛ. sū. a. 1|14) iti vacanāt| evaṃ cāgnimāndyābhāvāt jvarasya sambhave'pyupapattirayuktā| naivam| svasthānāccālanenāgnermāndyāpatteḥ| sthānavaṣādvā'nyathātvasyāpi kriyāsāmarthyaṃ dṛṣṭam| tathā cāṣṭāṅgasaṅgrahe (?) (carake) ṣoṣanidāne vakṣyati (ca. ni. a. 6|5)- "yoṃ'aṣaḥ [ tasya ] ṣarīrasandhīnāviṣati tena [ asya ] jṛmbhā jvaraṣcopajāyate|" ityādi| tasmātsa evāgniḥ kvacideva deṣe puktaṃ ṣakto bhavati, na sarvatra| uṣṇaguṇena tu pittena yuktaḥ paktā bhavatyevoṣṇataraḥ| ata eva santāpādīnadhikatarān karotīti na kiñcidatrānupapannam|
