śimbyāḥ-kośyāḥ, dhānyaṃ-mudgādikaṃ, yat śimbīdhānyaṃ tadvibandhakṛt| keṣāṃ vibandhaṃ karoti? sāmarthyāt srotasām, na tu purīṣādīnām| tathā ca saṅgrāhītyatraiva paṭhati śāstrakṛt| saṅgrāhilakṣaṇaṃ ca tatrāntare| yathā-"bhedi tatpiṇḍatān bhāvān śakṛdādīnbhinatti yat| viparītamato grāhi"iti| tasmādvibandhaṃ srotasāmevetyavehi| tathā, kaṣāyaṃ svādu kaṭupākaṃ śītavīryaṃ laghu ca| masūrādītyatrā''adiśabdena makuṣṭhacaṇakādīnāṃ grahaṇam| tathā, medaādiṣu hitam, prakṛtatvādabhyavahāre tathā lepa upaseke ceti| caśabdo'tra luptanirdiṣṭo bodhyaḥ| lepaḥ-pradehaḥ| upasekaḥ-pariṣekaḥ| kaṣāyaśītarūkṣatvena kaṭupākitvena ca vātakṛttvaṃ śimbīdhānyasya śāstrakṛtoktam| ata evedamupapannam-"mudgo'lpacalaḥ"iti| yadi hi śimbīdhānyasya mārutakṛttvaṃ sameyāt, tadaitadvaktuṃ yujyate| tasmāt vātakṛttvamasyāstīti sthitam| tasmiṃśca satyādhmānakāritvamapyupapannameva| ata eva saṅgrahe'syādhmānakāritvamuktam| mudgādīnāṃ ca viśeṣāstatraivoktāḥ (saṃ. sū. a. 7)| yathā-"haritāsteṣvapi varā makuṣṭhāḥ kṛmikāriṇaḥ| varṇyāḥ paraṃ pralepādyairmasūrā grāhiṇo bhṛśam||" iti|10

atha śimbidhānyavargaḥ| tatra mudgādiguṇānāhamudgāḍhakīti| mudgo dvididhaḥ,-kṣetramudgo vanamudgaśca| āḍhakītuvarī| masūro dvividhaḥ,-kṛṣṇaḥ pāṇḍuśca| tatra pāṇḍuḥ-maṅgalyākhyaḥ| ādiśabdātsaṅgrahoktāḥ (sū. a. 7)- "śimbijā mudgamāṅgalyavanamudgamakuṣṭhakāḥ| masūracavalāḍhakyaścaṇakāśca pṛthagvidhāḥ||" iti| śimbibhavaṃ dhānyaṃ-śimbidhānyam| vibandhakṛt-vātāvarodhakam| saṅgrāhi-malāvarodhakam| lepopasekayoḥ prayuktaṃ medaḥprabhṛtiṣu hitam| upasekovyañjanam, yena miśrīkṛtyaudanādi bhujyate| sa cātra yogyatvātsūpaḥ| uktaṃ ca carakeṇa (sū. a. 27/27)- "pittaśleṣmaṇi śasyante sūpeṣvālepaneṣu ca|" iti|
