śarīrasya cintā śarīracintā-jīrṇājīrṇanirūpaṇādikā, tāṃ nirvartya, tato mūtrapurīṣādeḥ kṛtaśaucavidhānaḥ, tato'nantaraṃ dantapavanamarkādikaṃ bhakṣayet| saṅgrahe'pyuktam (sū.a.3)- "brāhme muhūrta uttiṣṭhejjīrṇājīrṇaṃ nirūpayan" ityādi| arkaḥ-sūryāhvaḥ| nyagrodho-yakṣāvāsaḥ| 5 khadiro-gāyatrī| karañjaściribilvaḥ| kakubho'rjunaḥ| ādiśabdena mālatīkaravīrādiparigrahaḥ| kathaṃ bhakṣayet? dantānāṃ māṃsānyabādhayannapīḍayan| prātaḥpratyuṣasi, bhuktvā ca-āhāraṃ bhakṣayitvā ca| mṛdvagraṃkūrcitāgram| tathā kaṣāyakaṭutiktam, rasatrayeṇa hyanena mukhavairasyārocakaśleṣmādyapanayāḥ samyak sampadyante| arkādyupādānādeva kaṣāyāditve labdhe, kaṣāyādigrahaṇaṃ saṅgrahādigṛhītasya saṅgrahārthaṃ spaṣṭārthaṃ ca| arkādigrahaṇamudāharaṇārthaṃ jñeyam| atra saṃkṣepavivakṣayā na dantapavanasya gaṇasaṅgrahaḥ| dvādaśādyaṅgulapramāṇatvaṃ śleṣmātakādyaniṣṭadantapavananiṣedhaśca tantrāntarokta (saṅgrahokta) mapi nehoktam| suśrutenoktam (?) śaucaṃ vidhatte-śarīracintāmiti| tataḥ-prabodhānantaram| kṛtaśaicavidhirbhavet-smṛtyuktavidhinā malotsargādyācamanaparyantaṃ kuryāt| kiṃ kṛtvā śarīracintāṃ nirvartyaniṣpādya| kīdṛśaṃ me śarīraṃ, kiñca mayā asya hitamanuṣṭhitaṃ, kiṃvā adyānuṣṭheyamityādi vimarśaḥ śarīracintā| vakṣyati hi (sū. a. 2/47)- "naktaṃdināni me yānti kathambhūtasya samprati| duḥkhabhāṅga bhavatyevaṃ nityaṃ sannihitaḥ smṛtiḥ||" dharmaśāstre'pi"brāhmo muhūrta utthāya cintayedātmano hitam" iti| tadā hi kṛto vimarśo yathārtho bhavati, manasaḥ prasannatvāt| dantadhāvanaṃ vidhatte-arketi| prātarbhuktvā ceti dvikālaṃ dantapavanaṃ bhakṣayet| dantāḥ pūyante śodhyante'neneti dantapavanaṃ-dantakāṣṭham| taccārkādijam| kakubho'rjunaḥ| ādiśabdādasanādayaḥ| tacca mūlam| uktaṃ hi saṅgrahe (sū. a. 3)- "vaṭāsanārkakhadirakarañjakaravīrajam| sarjārimedāpāmārgamālatīkakubhodbhavam|| kaṣāyatiktakaṭukaṃ mūlamanyadapīdṛśam| vijñātavṛkṣaṃ kṣuṇṇāgramṛjvagranthi subhūmijam||" iti| kanīnyagrasamasthyaulyaṃ-kaniṣṭhikāṅgulyagrabhāgavatsthūlam| praguṇaṃṛju| kaṣāyādirasamarkādibhyo'nyadapi grāhyam, arkādyanabhivyaktakaṣāyādirasamapi grāhyāmityubhayorgrahaṇam| bhakṣaṇena bhakṣaṇapūrvakaṃ dantagharṣaṇaṃ lakṣyate, dantamāṃsabādhananiṣedhānyathānupapatteḥ| na hi bhakṣaṇamātreṇa dantamāṃsānāṃ pīḍā| uktaṃ ca saṅgrahe (sū. a. 3)- "prātarbhuktvā ca yatavāgbhakṣayeddantadhāvanam| vāpyatrivargatritayakṣaudrāktena ca gharṣayet| vāpyaṃ-kuṣṭham| trivargatritayaṃ-triphalā, trikaṭukaṃ, trijātakaṃ ca| śanaistena tato dantān dantamāṃsānyabādhayan"iti| gharṣaṇaṃ cādhodantapurvakam| uktaṃ hi saṅgrahe (sū. a. 3)"dantān pūrvamadho gharṣetprātaḥ siñcecca locane| toyapūrṇamukho grīṣmaśaradoḥ śītavāriṇā"iti| ṛtvantare koṣṇavāriṇetyarthaḥ|

rogaviśeṣe dantadhāvanaṃ niṣedhati-nādyāditi| ajīrṇādirogī, taddantapavanaṃ, nādyānna bhakṣayet| arditaṃekāyāmaḥ| saṅgrahe tu (sū. a. 3)- "naiva śleṣmātakāriṣṭabibhītadhavadhanvajān| bilvababbūlanirguṇḍīśigrutindukatilvakān|| kovidāraśamīpīlupippaleṅgudaguggulūn| 5 pāribhadrakamamlīkāmocakyau śālmalīṃ śaṇam|| svādvamlalavaṇaṃ śuṣkaṃ suṣiraṃ pūti picchilam| pālāśamāsanaṃ dantadhāvanaṃ pāduke tyajet||" iti|
