The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. Sutra 20.14

vyatyāsaṃ cinuyād yāvataḥ prastārāṃś cikīrṣet || ĀpŚus_20.14 ||

sthānaśabdaḥ prayogavācī / aṇūkāścaturbhāgīyāḥ saṅkhyāpūraṇe coditāḥ pañcadaśabhāgīyāś ca saṅghayāpūraṇe coditā itī yāvat / asmin prastāre saṅkhyā na pūritā sūtrakāreṇa / tatra tābhiḥsaṅkhyā pūrayitavyā yadi tābhiḥ pūryate / asminnagau tāvatā na śakyate aṇūkābhiḥsaṅkhyā pūraṇam / śakyate tu prakṛtau / tasmātprakṛtyarthau yogaḥ / tatra śakyate dvitīye prastāre tābhiḥ pūrayitum / tatra dviśatapūraṇamavaśyaṃ kartavyam / pratiprastāraṃ pūrayediti vacanāt / iha tu sahasrasaṃkhyaiva pūrayitavyā ityuktaṃ pūrvasmin paṭale / tasmātprakṛto yogaḥ / tatra ślokāḥ ----

pakṣeṣṭakānāṃ karaṇaṃ viparyasyārdhaviṣyate /
pakṣāgrīyāstathaivārdhaṃ viparyasyaiva kārayet //
viparyaścaiva kartavyāḥṣoḍaśyaḥ ṣoḍaśīdvayam /
sāhasre'tha dviṣāhasre pañcaṣaṣṭiṃ vidurbudhāḥ //
upadhāne yathāsūtraṃ yathā vātmani pakṣayoḥ /
pucche śirasi śiṣṭe ca ṣoḍaśīnāṃ vidurbudhāḥ //
ṣaṭprācyaḥ ṣaṭprīcyaś ca ātmani dvādaśa kṣipet /
śīrṣṇi dvayaṃ kṣipettiryaguktā eva caturdaśa //
śiṣṭaṃ rītidvayaṃ pucche tathā cātmanyapi dvayam /
ṣoḍaśārdheṣṭakāstāstu kṣipecca triṣu rītiṣu //
ekaikamuttare pārśve tisrastisrastu dakṣiṇe /
śiṣṭe tiryagdaśaiva syādaṣṭottaraśatadvayam //
pucchāpyaye tu viśayāścatasraḥṣoḍaśīḥ kṣipet /
ṣoḍaśyāvapyaye prācyau te cāgre śirasi kṣipet //
madhye tayoś ca dvāvardhau catasro viśayāḥ kṣipet /
ātmanaḥśeṣe dvāvardhau ṣoḍaśyau śirasi kṣipet //
anyatsarṃva yathāsūtraṃ dvādaśonaṃ śatadvayam /
ātmano dakṣiṇe pārśve catasro dakṣiṇāyatāḥ //
dvitīye cottare pārśve ṣaḍ dve śroṇyaṃsayorapi /
śirasaśvāpyaye caikā śirasyapi ca dakṣiṇā //

etā nidheyāḥṣoḍaśyo viparyastāstare dvaye /

paribhāṣeyam / pañcadaśabhāgīyāḥ prathamacaturaśre uktāḥ / tāsāṃ sthāne kāryasaṃkhyāpūraṇe aṇūkā bhaveyuḥ / tasyāḥ paribhāṣāyā atropadeśaḥ katham? ihopadiṣṭāḥ ṣoḍaśyo'pi kṣetrasāmyādaṇūkāśabdena grāhyā bhaveyuḥ ityevamartham / tena aṇūkābhiścaturaśre'gnau saṃkhyāpūraṇam / iha tu ṣoḍaśībhiśvoti siddham / kecidyaccaturaśraṃ tryaśri sampadyate ityetadapi paribhāṣāmicchanti / tena tatratatrāgnau tadapekṣyā tābhirapi saṃkhyāpūraṇaṃ manyante / atra punaḥ pracchādayediti vacanaṃ pracchādane'pi caitā yathā bhaveyurityevamartham / tena tatratatrāgnau sati sambhave satyāṃ cāpekṣāyāṃ tābhiḥsahaubhirapi pracchādanaṃ syāt /

upadhānakramaḥ dvitīyacityāṃ śirasi prāṅbhukhe bāhyaviśeṣe dve ṣoḍaśyau upadadhyāt / tayoḥ paścāt prāṅbhukhe bāhyaviśeṣe viśaye dve ardhe / tayoḥ paścāttadviśeṣaśliṣṭaviśeṣe dve ṣoḍaśyau viśaye ātmani / tayordakṣiṇasyā dakṣiṇato bāhyaviśeṣamekamardham / uttarasyā uttarataś ca bāhyaviśeṣamekamardham / tayordakṣiṇata uttarataś ca bāhyaviśeṣeṇaikaikamardham / tataḥ paścādātmani prācyaḥṣaḍrītayaḥ / tatra dakṣiṇasyāṃ rītyāṃ purastāt bāhyaviśeṣā prāgagraikā ṣoḍśī / pasvācca bāhyaviśeṣā pratyagagraikā / tayormadhye ṣaḍardheṣṭakāḥ / tāsāṃ tisraḥ pratīcyastisra udīcyaḥ / dvitīyasyāṃ rītyāṃ paścāt bāhyaviśeṣeṇa dakṣiṇāmukhe dve ardhe / tatpurastādardhaviśeṣayuktaviśeṣāt pratyaṅbhukhaikā ṣoḍaśī / tasyā / purastāt ṣaḍardhāḥ / tāsāṃ tisrastisraḥ prācya pratīcyaś ca / tatpurastātuttarato viśeṣā prāgagraikā ṣoḍaśī / tatpurastāttadviśeṣaśliṣṭaviśeṣamekamardham / tatpurastāt pūrvopahitamardhamastyeveti dvādaśeṣṭakā eṣā / tṛtīyasyāṃ rītyāṃ śiro'pyayaṣoḍaśyāḥ paścādārabhya āpucchāpyayamaṣṭau ṣoḍaśya upadheyāḥ / tāsāṃ catasraḥ prācyaścatasraḥ pratīcyaḥ / evamevottarāstisro rītayaḥ / tatra tṛtīyāvaccaturthī / dvitīyāvatpañcamī / prathamāvat ṣaṣṭhī / tatra tisṛṇāṃ dakṣiṇarītīnāṃ dakṣiṇaṃ pārśvamuttararītīnāmuttaraṃ pārśvam / dakṣiṇānāmuttarāṇaṃ ca dakṣiṇā pārśvarītidvayagatā / atra pratīcyo mukulātmakāḥ / tatpratīpamukāḥ prācyaḥ / evaṃ śobhāṃ vitanvate / pucche madhyamarītyantayorviśayaṣoḍasyordākṣiṇata uttarataś ca dve ardhe bāhyaviśeṣe / tataḥ paścānmadhye dve ṣoḍaśyau / te abhita(stitasra)stisro'rdheṣṭakā ityaṣṭeṣṭakāḥ / tataḥ pucchāgre ṣaḍbhiḥ ṣoḍaśībhirabhitor'dhābhiraṣṭeṣṭakāḥ / pakṣāgrayoścatasraścatasror'dheṣṭakāḥ / pakṣadvaye pakṣeṣṭakāḥsapta rītayaḥ / dvādaśaśatamiṣṭakāḥ / pādeṣṭakābhiś ca pūraṇapakṣe etā eva rītayaḥ / tatra viśeṣaḥ pucchagatopāntarītyāṃ bāhyāsvatasror'dheṣṭakā dvidhā kuryāt / ātmani prathamadvitīyapañcamaṣaṣṭheṣu tanmadhyagatārdheṣu paścimato dve dve ardhe / avaśiṣṭānyeṣvardhasthāneṣu ṣoḍaśīyugmānyupadadhyāt / dvitīyāpañcamyośvārdhā dvidhā bhidyāt /

nanu bhedo varjanīya iti tatratatrāgnau yatnena parihṛtaḥ /
sa idānīṃ pucche prādurbubhūṣati? naitatsāram /
niyatalokānāmiṣṭakānāmasaṃbādhena samuditābhiriṣṭakābiḥsaṅkhyāyāṃ pūritāyāṃ yadīṣṭakaikadeśe bheda upajāyate sa bhedo marṣaṇīya eva, avarjanīyatvādekadeśabhedasya /
ata eva bhedavarjanaṃ svakaṇṭhenoktamācāryeṇa dviśata eṣa iti //

prakṛtau caturaśrāgnau pañcadaśabhāgīyānāṃ kāryaṃ bhedaparihāreṇa saṃkhyāpūraṇam / iha tu tatkārye aṇūkā upadheyāḥ / tatra samacaturaśrāṇāmaṇūkānāmupadhāne dviśataḥ kartuṃ na śakyate / tasmādaṇūkakṣetrāṇāṃ grahaṇam / tatrāpi ṣoḍaśyo na gṛhyante / avaśiṣṭaṃ ṣoḍaśībhirityeva siddhatvāt bhedasambhavācca / tasmāda (nyā ) ṇūkakṣetrādi (dvi) prakārā iṣṭakāḥ kartavyāḥ / darśite ca tāsāṃ karaṇe (pūrvameva) /

ācāryeṇa tu karaṇe nopadiṣṭe /
antyā bāhyaviśeṣā ityasmin pakṣe aṇūkānāmanupayogāt /
uktaśvopadhānaprakāraḥ /
aṇūkābhirvinaiva tasmin pakṣe prathama eva prastāre aṇūkānāmupayogaḥ kartavyaḥ //
