The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. Sutra 12.10

praugacitoktīḥ (-ktaṃ) | ubhayataḥ praugā iṣṭakāḥ kārayet || ĀpŚus_12.10 ||

tāvadeva saptādhesya dviguṇam / iha tu dīrghacaturaśrasya dviguṇāyāmapramāṇavistāraḥ / puruṣadvayena tribiraradnibhiḥ ṣoḍaśabhiraṅgulaiḥ sārdhaikaviṃśatyā tilaiḥ mitā tiryaṅmānīmadhye ca śaṅkūnnihatya śaṅkuṣu rajjvā veṣṭayitvā bāhyatastyajet / saptaṣaśaṣṭhiśatatrayamaṅgulīnāṃ caturdaśabhistilaiḥsārdhayīṣāprāmāṇyam / āsāṃ dvādaśena karaṇāni kārayet / praugacitobhayataḥ praugeṣṭakāḥ kārayet / ubhayataḥ praughākārāḥ iṣṭakāḥ pādāśvobhayataḥ praughībhūtāḥ / cayanavidhiruktaḥ prauge / tatra ślokaḥ --

trisaptakaistilairyuktāṃ sāṣṭāviṃśaśatatrayīm /
praugasyottarasyāgneḥ tiryaṅbhānīṃ vidurbudhāḥ //
tiryagdviguṇitāyāme caturaśre havirbhujaḥ /
śaṅgūnnihatya madhyeṣu karaṇeṣu caturṣvapi //
rajjuṃ śahguṣu saṃyojya śroṇyoraṃsān parityajet /
śiṣṭaṃ saptārdhameva syācchakaṭe vimukhe yathā //
caturdaśatilairyuktaṃ saptaṣaṣṭiśatatrayam /
praughasyottarasyaitadīṣāmātraṃ prakalpitam //
īṣādvādaśabhāgena tathā bhāgottareṇa cca /
ubhyataḥ praugībhūtāḥ sapādāḥ kārayediha //

karavindīyā vyākhyā

ubha -- te

ubhayataḥ praugaṃ -- ubhayataḥ śakaṭamukhaṃ / prajātān śatrūna praṇudeyaṃ janiṣyamāṇāṃś ca praṇudeyaṃ yathā na jāyante tathā karavāṇītyarthaḥ /

śrutipadaṃ vyācaṣṭe ----

yathāvi -- toktāḥ

vimukhe -- nānāmukhaghe śakaṭe yathā pṛṣṭhai saṃhite tiṣṭhete tādṛgākāramubhayatra praugaṃ tathā cinvītetyarthaḥ /
tāvadeva pūrvoktaṃ sāratniprādeśaś ca saptavidhasya dviyuṇaṃ dīrghaṃ caturaśraṃ vihṛtya tiryaṅnānīpārśvamānīnāṃ madhye śaṅkuṃ nihatya pūrvasmācchaṅkoḥ dakṣiṇaṃ śaṅkuṃ pratyakṣṇayā liśeddakṣiṇataḥ paścimaṃ paścimataḥ uttaramuttarataḥ pūrvaṃ, evaṃ liśedubhayataḥ praugākṛtikṣetraṃ bhavati /
vistāradviguṇāyāmaṃ dīrghaṃ pañcapuruṣāḥ saptadaśāṅgulāsvāyāmaḥ, dvau puruṣāvaṣṭaṣaṣṭiraṅgulaya ekaviṃśatitilāś ca tiryaṅbhānī dīrghacaturaśrasya //

karaṇāni cayanavidhiś ca praugavat / viśeṣastūbhayataḥ praugāḥ iṣṭakāḥ / trayaḥ puruṣāḥsapta cāṅgulayaḥ saptadaśa tilāś ca eṣāṃ pramāṇam / asya dvādaśo bhāgastriṃśadaṅgulayaḥ pañcaviṃśatitilāś ca / trayodaśo bhāgo'ṣṭāviṃśatiraṅgulayaḥ tribhāgonā nava tilāś ca / śatadvayaṃ aṣṭāviṃśatiraṅgulayaḥ ekaviṃśatitilāśvobhayataḥ praugasya tiryaṅbhānī / tasyā dvādaśabhāgena trayodaśabhāgena parimitaṃ karaṇaṃ yathā bhavati tathā bhavet karaṇam /

ardheṣṭakā dvādaśabhāgīyābhistrayodaśabhāgīyābhisva āyāmatastulyāḥ vistāratastadardhavistārāḥ /
pādeṣṭakā āyāmato vistārataśvārdhāḥ /
prathame prastāre yāḥpādā upahitāḥ te dvitīye tadanyatropadheyāḥ /
dvādaśabhāgīyāpakṣe catasror'deṣṭakāḥ trayodaśabhāgīyāpakṣe dve //

sundararājīyā vyākhyā

ubhayataḥaśakaṭe

vimukhe -- viparyastamukhe prākpaścānmukhe yathā śakaṭabhāge tādṛgeṣo'gnirbhavati /

dvistāvadagnikṣetravistāradviguṇāyāmaṃ dīrghacaturaśraṃ viharet / trīṇi śatānyaṣṭāviṃśatiśvāṅgulayo dvāviṃśatitilāś ca tiryaṅbhānī / dviguṇā pārśvamānī / evaṃ vihṛtya pūrvāparayoḥ karaṇyormadhyāt dakṣiṇottarayorṇadhye nipādayet / bahiṣpandyamapacchindyāt /

ekavidhokta iṣṭakādiḥ /

dvādaśyāśvatvāri phalakāni triṃśadaṅgulāni saikaviṃśatitilāni / ekākṣṇayā saptaviṃśatyaṅgulā trayodaśatilayuktā / dviguṇānyā / eṣāmardhaiḥ pādyāstṛtīyairnavamyaḥ / trayodaśyāśvatvāri phalakāni sapādṣṭāviṃśatyaṅgulāni, ityekaḥ karṇarajjuḥ /

eka vidhavadevopadhāṃnam /
rītayastu koṇādimukhāḥ /
dvitīyaprastāre madhye viṃśatiḥ pādyāḥ, aṣṭādaśa navamyaḥ /
api madhyasthapādānāṃ paścātpuraktācca vidheyāḥ //
