The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. nanu vyatyāse nāma yasmin prastāre yatra yādṛśānāmupadhānaṃ kṛtaṃ tadanantare prastāre tatrānyāṭṛśānāmupadhānaṃ tādṛśānāmevānyato dīrghāṇām / naca bhedābhāvaḥ prayojanam; sa cehācāryapravṛcyaiva siddhaḥ, tatkimarthamidamucyate vyatyāsaṃ cinuyāditi? ucyate -- anyaprastāradvaye sūtrakārasya vyatyāsopadhānavidheruparyupari prastāreṣvaniyamāśaṅkā mandadhiyāṃ na bhavediti vyatyāsavacanam / kiñca mantropadhānottaramapi prāmādika bhedadarśane tatparijihīrṣayā lokavadupahitānāmeva pracālanādiprāptau ""sa indra iṣṭakāmāvṛhat / te kīryanteti' doṣadarśanādayālanāya śulbopadhānasamaya eva śulbakuśalairniyatadeśānāmabhādhena bhedābhāgavaḥ pariharaṇīya ityevamarthaṃ vyatyāsavacanam /

pañca ṣasya

jalādrā pṛt -- purīṣam / abhyūhanamupalepaḥ / upadhāyāpedhāya tāṃ tāṃ citiṃ jalārdrayā mṛdopalimpet / dvābhyāṃ vākyābhyāmekā citiḥ purīṣopadhānaparyantā jñeyā / na kevaletyarthaḥ / arthāntaratvāt purīṣasya, arthaḥ -- prayojanaṃ / antarā -- bhedaḥ / prayojanānyatvādityarthaḥ / citīnāmanyatprayojanaṃ purīṣāṇāṃ cānyat / citīnāṃ prayojanabhūtāt jānudaghnavadutsedhakaraṇādanyat prayojanaṃ purīṣasya / tacceṣṭakānāṃ śoṣapākāgalahrāsapūraṇaṃ parasparasaṃ śleṣaś ca / ata eva cāniyataparimāṇaṃ purīṣam / naca etāvadbhiḥ purīṣairhrāsaparihāraḥ parasparasaṃśleṣaś ca bhavatīti pramāṇamasti / tasmādaniyatapramāṇaṃ purīṣam / ata uktaṃ purīṣāntā citiriti / tathāca śrūyate -- "purīṣeṇābhyūhati / tasmānmāṃsenāsthi cchannamiti' / ayamarthaḥ -- yathā śarīrāvayavabhūtānyasthīni māṃsaiśchannānyeva śarīrakārye prabhavanti / evamavayavabhūteṣṭakāḥ sarvataḥ purīṣaiśchannā evāgnikārye prabhavanti / tasmādabhyūhanaparyantā citiḥ / kiñcayadi purīṣopadānaṃ svārthaṃ tadā jānudaghnādyatiriktapramāṇatāgneḥ syāt / ataḥ uktameva prayojanam / anena "daśa sampadyante dvādaśa sampadyanta' iti cārthavādadarśanena citipurīṣayorminnārthatāśaṅkā mābhūditi ekārthatā pratipaditā /

jānu yate

atra "jānudaghnaṃ cinvīta prathamaṃ cinvāna' ityādyā utsedhavidhāyikā stisraḥśrutayaḥ / tathā "sahasraṃ cinvīte' tyādyā agneriṣṭakāsaṅkhyāvidhāyikāstisraḥśrutayaḥ / jānudaghnaṃ jānupramāṇaṃ, nābhidaghnaṃ nābhipramāṇaṃ āsyadaghnamāsyapramāṇam / sāhasraṃ sahasrasaṅkhyā parimitaṃ /

dviṣāhasraṃ dvābhyāṃ sahasrābhyāṃ parimitam / triṣaśāhasraṃ tribhiḥsahasraiḥ parimitam / utsedhavidhayaḥ tatsampādanāpekṣāḥ / saṅkhyāvidhayaḥ tadāśrayāpekṣāḥ / teṣāṃ yathākramaṃ naṣṭāśvadagdharathavat parasparāpekṣayā melanena paṭhitāḥ / jyāyāṃsamutkṛṣṭairmardanādikalpaiḥ utkṛṣṭaiś ca saṃsarjanīyaiḥ; mahāntamutsedhataḥ; bṛhantaṃ parimāṇataḥ; aparimitaṃ saṅkhyāta uktaṃ / saṃkhyādikamaparimitaṃ parimitāt parimāṇāt bhūyaḥ pramāṇe sāhasraṃ śāstraṃ pramāṇamiti kātyāyanaḥ / svargakāmasya tu viśeṣataḥ / akāmasya tu nitya eva / svargakāmasye tyukteḥ agnikalpe "vājasaneyikamiti' vacanācca dviṣāhasrādīnāṃ vikalpaḥ / grīvadaghnamiti taittirīyake śrūyate / ubhayamapyekārthameva / iṣṭakotsedhakaraṇāntarāvidhānāt / "samānaṃ hiśirogrīvamiti' brāhnaṇadarśanācca / (kiñca grīvāsyayoḥ paryāyatvadarśanācca) / kiñca grīvāsyayoḥ paryāytvaṃ loke ca dṛśyate -- daśāsyo daśagrīva iti / tasmācchutyorekārthatā /

sundararājīyā vyākhyā

vyatyāsaṃapurīṣasya

iṣṭakāḥsthaṇḍilārthāḥ, tatsandhānārthaṃ purīṣaṃ / ato bhinnaprayojanatvātsakhyāntaraṃ nāvagāhate /

jānudaghnīṃajyāyāṃsaṃ sāhasraṃ sahasraparimāṇam / dviṣāhasraṃ triṣāhasramiti "pūrvapadāditi' ṣatvam / uttaramuttaraṃ caturthaprabhṛti /

atra brāhnaṇaṃ pramāṇatvenāha --

mahāntaṃavijñāyate

mahāntaṃ vidhābhyāsena / aparimitaṃ bṛhantaṃ ūrvapramāṇena / atra bodhāyanaḥ -- ūrdhvapramāṇābhyāsaṃ jānoḥ pañcamasya caturviṃśenaike samāmananti /
