The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. yajamānamātrī catuḥsraktir bhavatīti paitṛkyā veder vijñāyate, tadekarajjvoktaṃ pañcadaśikenaivāpāyamyārdhena tataḥ śroṇyaṃsān nirharet || ĀpŚus_6.7 ||

paitṛkyā vedeḥ śrutiḥ--yathā dikṣu sraktayo bhavanti tathā mātavyā / tadekarajjveti gatārtham /

vedārthāvagamasya bahuvidyāntarāśrayatvāt / takṣaśāstre gārgyā gastyādibhiraṅgulisaṃkhyayoktaṃ rathaparimāṇa ślokamudā harati--

athāpiśabdau samuccaye, udāharanti munayaḥ, aṣṭaśītiś ca śataṃ cāṣṭāśītiśataṃ, catvāri ca śataṃ ca catuḥśatam, ṣaṭcāśītiś ca ṣaḍaśīti, āyodhanapuṣyajaitracāraṇādibhedena rathasyānekavidhatāmupanyasta tairuktaṃ aṣṭāśītiśatamityādi, asyārthaḥ--asya bahuvidhasya madhye yasya īṣā aṣṭāśītiśatamaṅgulayaḥ, caturadhikaṃ śatamakṣaḥ, yugaṃ ca ṣaḍaśītiḥ, evaṃvidho rathaśvāraṇa ucyata iti / evaṃ rathaparimāṇamudāharanti munayaḥ /

nanu akṣasya tiryaṅbhānītvamuktam, yugeṣayoḥ prācī tiraśvīti na jñāyate / ucyate--akṣasya tiryaktvavidhānādevayugeṣayorapi drāghīyasī prācī, hrasīyasī tiraśvīti sāmarthyādīṣā prācīti gamyata iti manyante / chidrāntarālapakṣe ṣoḍaśāṅgulahīnā purastāttiraśvī /

pitṛṇāmiyaṃ vediḥ--paitṛkī mahāpitṛyajñavediḥ /
codakaprāpte'pi yajamānamātre punarvacanaṃ vistārasyāpi tathātvā(ya)t /
(āyāmaḥ) pratidiśaṃ sraktayaḥ mahādikṣukoṇāḥ "sarvā hyanudiśaḥ' iti darśanāt, atra prayogaḥ--agreṇānvāhāryapacanaṃ kiñcidantaḥsañcaramavaśiṣaya tasya purastādyajamānamātraṃ dvikaramyā caturaśraṃ saṃpādya tasya karaṇīmadhyeṣu yathā sraktayo bhaveyuḥ tathā pañcadaśikenetyādinā vihṛtyārdhena tataḥ tasya yajamānamātrasyārdhena śroṇyaṃsānnirharettannimitto nirhrāso vivṛddhirvetyuktayornirhrāsaḥ, mahāvedyāṃ padañcaśikenaivāpāyamya ardhayajamānamātre śaṅkuṃ nihanyāt dakṣiṇāprācī vediḥ //

aṅgulayaḥsaṃkhyeyāḥ / aṅguliśvordhvabāhoḥ puruṣasya viṃśatiśatatamo bhāga iti vakṣyate / "pañcāratniḥ puruṣaḥ, catuviṃśatya ṅgulayo'ratniḥ

iti / ca catustriṃśatattiletyācakṣate / yathoktaṃ bodhāyanena--

""aṅgulipramāṇaṃ caturdaśāṇavaḥ catustriṃśattilāḥ pṛthusāṃśliṣṭā ityaparam' iti caturadhikaṃ śataṃ catuḥśataṃ yugamiti vipathayugamucyate prastutatvāt / anyattu yugaṃ śatāṅgulamiti takṣaśāstravidaḥ / ṣaṇṇavatyaṅgulamityācāryapādīyāḥ / yathā'huḥ-- caturhasto dhanirdanḍo dhanurdhanvantaraṃ yugam /

iti / "hastaścaturviṃśatiraṅgulayaḥ' iti ca /

tata iti ṣaṣṭhayantāttasil / dakṣiṇāprācī pṛṣṭhayā / mahādikṣu śroṇyaṃsāḥ / atra laghūpāyamāha kātyāyanaḥ--

"paitṛkyāṃ dvipuruṣaṃ caturaśraṃ kṛtvā karaṇīmadhyeṣu śaṅkavaḥsasamādhiḥ' iti / tatra prakāraḥ--puruṣamātradvikaraṇyā daśatilonayā saptatiśatāṅgulayā samacaturaśraṃ kṛtvā karaṇīnāṃ madhyeṣu śaṅkūnnihatya daśāratnayo rajjvoḥ pāśāna pūrvāparayoḥ pratimucya tayormadhye dakṣiṇottarayorniyamya vahiḥspandamapacchindyāt / etaṃ caturaratnamipi kecidicchanti / tatra ājyaṃ puroḍāśā āsādayituṃ na śakyante /
