The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. yajamānasyādhvaryorvā | eṣa hi ceṣṭānāṃ kartā bhavati || Sūtra _6.2b ||

yajamānasya padaṃ grāhyaṃ svāmitvāt / adhvaryorvā--vāśabdaḥ pakṣavyāvṛttau / na yajamānasya / adhvaryureva kutaḥ? eṣa hi ceṣṭānāṃ kartā bhavati / ceṣṭayanta iti ceṣṭāḥ karmāṇi / sa karmaṇāṃ kartā yataḥ hiśabdo hetau / tasmādadhvaryoreva na yajamānasya /

dvistāvāyāṃ vedyāṃ aśvamedhe prakraprasya dvikariṇī prakramasthāne bhavati pramāṇadvikaraṇyā viharet /

padaṃ pañcadaśāṅgulam. dvipadaṃ triṃśadaṅgulam. tripadaṃ pañca catvāriṃśadaṅgulam, dvipade tripade ca prakramavyavahārādubhayamiha grāhyam / athavā prakramaḥ padavikṣepavācī, padādayo'tra māna sādhanabhūtā gṛhyante / ato na vikṣepamātreṇa prayojanam / kinatu tatmaṃbandhinā kenaciddravyoṇa, ato vikṣepaphalabhūtasaṃyogavibhāgābhyāmupalakṣitadeśāntarālaparimitarajjvādinā prayojanam, gacchan hi sarvo janaḥ ekaṃ padaṃ vikṣipya nidadhāti, tatra nirvikāraṃ saṃgacchana samaḥ puruṣaḥ, sthitanidhīyamānayoḥ padayorantarālaṃ yathā padaparimitaṃ bhavati tathā gacchati, ato vikṣiptena padena padadvayaṃ vyābtamiti dvipadaḥ prakramaḥ, sthitamapi padaṃ tatsahakārīti tābhyāṃ padatrayavyāptestripadaś ca bhavati / prakrame yāthākāmīkāma icchā, tadanatikramo yathākāmam, tasya bhāvaḥ yathākāmyam, yātākāmyameva yāthākāmī--yatheṣṭamityarthaḥ, vividhaṃ śeta iti viśaya, ubhayatra prayogo dṛśyata ityarthaḥ / nanu prakrameṣu vaiṣamyamapi dṛśyate, yathā caturo viṣṇukramām prācaḥ krāmatyuttaramuttaraṃ jyāyāṃsamiti / nāyaṃ doṣa, tasya vacanasyotta rottaraṃ jyāyastvavidhiparatvāt, prakrame gṛhyamāṇe dvipadameva tripadameva gṛhṇīyāt, na miśrayedityarthaḥ, caturo viṣṇukamānityatra vācanikatvāt kramavaiṣamyasya na kramavaiṣamyānuyogaḥ / ato viśeṣitaprakamavidhau dvitripadaprakamayorevānyataraṃ kṛhṇīyānna miśrayedityarthaḥ / padādisūtre vakṣyamāṇaḥ padavikalpanibandhanaḥ prakramayorapi vikalpo bhavatītyeva /

cajamānādhvaryū prasiddhau, hi śabdo hetau, ceṣṭanta iti ceṣṭāḥ, karmāṇi / ayamarthaḥ padādayo yajamānasya grāhyāḥ svāmitvāt, kutaḥ, yāthākāmirvāt, tasya adhvaryorvā / vāśabdo vikalpārthaḥ / yasmādeṣo'dhvaryuśveṣṭānāṃ kartā bhavati tasmādasya padādayo grāhyāḥ ceṣṭākartṛtvāt, yajamānasya prāptayarthaṃ vacanamadhvaryostu bādhakavādhanārthamato vikalpaḥ /

sundararājīyā vyākhyā.

śabdārthasya--śabdapravṛttinimittasya viśayitvaṃ--anekavṛttitvam / idaṃ prakame yāthākāmyaṃ śabdārthasya viśayitvāduktamityarthaḥ / "dvipadaḥ prakamaḥ' iti bodhāyanaḥ / "tripadaḥ prakramaḥ' iti kātyāyanaḥ / ubhayamapyācāryasyānumatamiti vijñāyate /

padenāṅgulibhirvā prakamo grāhyaḥ svāmitvāt / kāraṇamāha--
