The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. trikacatuṣkayoḥ pañcikākṣṇayārajjuḥ | tābhis trirabhyastābhir aṃsau | caturabhyastābhiḥśroṇī || ĀpŚus_5.3 ||
yasya caturaśrasya trikā tiryaṅbhānī catuṣkā pārśvamānī tasyā akṣṇayā rajjuḥ pañcikā / tābhiraṃsau mātavyau / trikaṃ trirabhyāsayuktaṃ dvādaśa bhavanti / catuṣkaṃ (ṣoḍaśa pañcikā) viśatiḥṣa /
yupāvaṭīyācchaṅkoḥ paścāt ṣoḍaśasu śaṅkuṃ nihatya tasmin pañcikāṃ sābhyāsaṃ pratimucya yūpāvaṭīye sābhyāsaṃ trikaṃ pratimucyāṃsāvāyacchet /
caturabhyastābhiḥśroṇī /
tābhireva caturabhyāsayuktābhiḥ śroṇī mātavyau /
viṃśeṣu śaṅkuṃ nihatya tasmin pañcikāṃ sābhyāsaṃ pañcaviṃśatiṃ pratimucya pañcadaśikāṃ pratimucya tābhiḥśroṇī viharet //
darśapūrṇamāsavediviharaṇānantaraṃ prakṛtau saumyavedivimānamucyate /

triṃśatpadān.i paścāttiraśvī bhavatīti taittirīyakaśrutiḥ /
triṃśatprakrameti śāśāntarīyā, ato vikalpaḥ, yadyapi karmopateśaḥ prakramaśabdena prāgvaṃśasya madhyamāllālāṭikātrrīn prācaḥ prakramāniti tatrāpi śrutyorvaikalpikatvena pradarśanārthaḥ prakramaśabdaḥ /
tatra prakramāyata iti prakramāśabdaḥ /
paścāttiraśvī paścāttiryaṅbhānī prācī āyāmaḥ purastāstiraśvī tiryaṅbhānī vimānamucyate //
ṣaṭtriṃśikā ṣaṭtriṃśatpramāṇā rajjuḥ, tasyāmaṣṭādaśopasamasya saṃyojyāparasmāt paścimādantādārabhya dvādaśasu lakṣaṇamaṃsārthaṃ, pañcadaśasu lakṣaṇaṃ śroṇyarthaṃ, prāgvaṃśasya madhyamāllālāṭikātrrin prācaḥ prakramānatītya tataḥ purastāt ṣaṭtriṃśatpramāṇāṃ prācīṃ lekhāmālikheta sā pṛṣṭhyā tadantayoḥ śaṅku nihatya tayoḥ pāśau pratimucya pañcadaśikena lakṣaṇena dakṣiṇāpāyamya śaṅkuṃ nihanti sā dakṣiṇā śroṇī, evamuttara to'pāyamya śaṅkuḥ, sottarā śroṇī, viparyastayāṃsau viparyastapā śayāṃ'śau mātavyau /
pañcadaśikenaivāpāyamya dvādaśike śaṅkuḥ, dakṣiṇataḥ uttarataś ca tāvaṃsau /
nanu "tadarthamabhyasyāparasmin' itya nenaiba viharaṇenāsminviharaṇe siddhe kimarthamiha punarvacanam, ucyate--saṅkhyāpūrvāgamārthamiti kecitpariharanti, anekarajjuvivakṣayā ityanye, āyāmābhyāseṣu dvādaśasu lakṣaṇaṃ pañcadaśasu lakṣaṇaṃ saptaviṃśatyādau niraḍhañjanamiti lakṣaṇabāhulyapratipādanārthamityapare /
dīrghacaturaśrāṇāṃ ca tatra viharaṇamuktaṃ /
iha tu viṣamadīrghacaturaśrasyetyapare //

ekā cāsau rajjuśvetyekarajjuḥ, ekayaiva rajjvā śroṇyaṃsānāṃ viharaṇaṃ /
dviśaṅkunā triśaṅkunā pañjaśaṅkunā vā yogena yadviharaṇamuktaṃ tadidamityuktamanubhāṣate anekarajjuvidhitsayā //

trikā triprāṇā catuṣkā catuṣpramāṇā pañcikā pañcapramāṇā /
trikacatuṣkayoriti āyāmābhyāsaprāptamanūdyate, tadabhyāsena śroṇyaṃsavidhānārthaṃ evamuttareṣvabhyāseṣu //
tābhiḥ pṛthakpṛthakrirabhyastābhiḥ trirupari nikṣeptābhiḥ, trikāt trirabhyastāt dvādaśa, catuṣkātrrirabhyastāt ṣoḍaśa, pañcakāttrirabhyastāt viṃśatiḥ, tābhiraṃsau mātavyau //
trikāccaturabhyastāt pañcadaśa, catuṣkādviṃśatiḥ, pañcakāt pañcaviṃśatiḥ, tābhiḥśroṇyau mātavyau /
yūpāvaṭīyācchaṅkoḥ paścāt ṣoḍaśasu śaṅkuṃ nnihatya tasmiṃstrirabhyastāṃ pañcikāṃ caturabhyastāṃ pratimucya yūpāvaṭīye trirabhyastāṃ trikāṃ caturabhyastāṃ pratimucya prathamanihitaśaṅkau caturabhyastāṃ trikāṃpratimucya tābhyāṃ śroṇyau, āyāmābhyāsasiddhamidam /
āyāmadviguṇābhyāsasiddhaṃ vā //
(triṃśatpadāni prakramā vā vedervijñāyate)
padaṃ ca dvividhamuktaṃ bodhāyanena--"daśāṅgulaṃ kṣudrapadaṃ padaṃ pañcadaśāṅgulam' iti / dvādaśāṅgulamiti kātyāyanaḥ / etānitrividhāni padāni laukikena padena vikalpyante / tathā vakṣyati--"pade yuge'radnau' ityādi / etānyeva caturvindhāni padāni dviguṇāni triguṇāni ca prakramāḥ / te ca saptavidhāḥ / tatra sāgnicitye some padairvimānaṃ na labhyate agnikṣetrāsaṃbhavāt / evaṃ saptavidhe'gnau viṃśatyaṅgulasya nivṛttir vyākhyātā, anagnicitye tu sarveṣāmeva pradaprakramāṇāmicchayā vikalpa iti kecit / anye punarevaṃ vyavasthāmicchanti--padaiścaturvidhairviṃśatyaṅgulena vā prakrameṇa mānamanagnicitye / ekavidhāgnau viṃśatyaṅgulena, dvividhādiṣu pañcavidhaparyanteṣu caturviṃśatyaṅgulena, ṣaḍvidhādiṣu dvāda śavidhaparyanteṣu viṃśatyaṅgulena laukikena vā dvipadena, trayodaśavidhādiṣu ṣaṭ triṃśadaṅgulenetyādi / sarveṣāmapi pakṣe agnayaḥ pañcacatvāriṃśadaṅgulena prakrameṇa saṃbhavanti / tatrāgnyanuguṇā vede rvivṛddhiḥ kartavyā / yṛpaiphādaśinyāṃ nyāyasya prakramāsthānīyaḥ, ekaśatavidhe aśītyaṅgula ityādi /
athāsyā vederviṃharaṇamāha----
yāvadāyām pramāṇamityuktasya mānasyāyaṃ prapañcaḥ /
athāsyā eva vederanekarajjvā viharaṇamāha--
trikacatuṣkayostiryakpāśvamānyoḥ abhyastābhiḥ upakṣiptābhiḥ, yathā-- trikā trirabhyastā dvādaśikā, catuṣkā trirabhyastā ṣoḍāśekā, pañcikā trirabhyastā viṃśatikā / etābhistisṛbhirabhyastābhiraṃsau mātavyau / etābhireva caturabhyastābhiḥ pañcadaśikayā viṃśikayā ca śroṇī mātavye / dvirabhyastābhirapyetābhiraṃsau mātuṃ śakyete /
sarvatra dvādaśikāṃ'sayoḥ /
tiryaṅbhānī pañcadaśikā /
śroṇyoritarā pṛṣṭhyāyāṃ pārśvamānī evaṃ ṣaḍbhīrajjubhirviharaṇam /
evamuttaratra //
