The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Grihya-sutra with the commentaries of Haradatta (called the Anakula-vritti) and Sudarshana (called the Grihyatatparyadarshana-vyakhya). The Apastamba Grihyasutra is a short treatise on Vedic rituals which, together with the Hiranyakeshin-grihya-sutra, belongs to the Taittiriya School of the Black Yajur-Veda. śucīn suddhān mantravataḥ śrutādhyayanasampannān'śucīnmantravatassarvakṛtyeṣu bhojayet'(āpa.dha.2-15-11)ityeva siddhe punarvacanamādarārtham /
brāhmaṇān yonisambandhāḥ śvaśuramātulādayaḥ, gotrasambandhāḥ samānagotrāḥ mantrasambandhāḥ' ṛtvigācāryāntovāsinaśca /
guṇahānyāṃ tu pareṣāmiti vakṣyati /
ayugmāniti yugmapratiṣedhārtham /
tryavarāniti ekapratiṣedhārtham /
"natvevaikaṃ sarveṣām /
kāmamanādye"(āśva.gṛ4-7-3) itiyāśvalāyanaḥ /
anādye āmaśrāddhe durbhikṣe vā kule ekamapi bhojaye- dityarthaḥ /
yadyapi strībhyo'pi piṇḍadānaṃ dṛśyate tathāpi brāhmaṇabhojanamiha tabhyo na bhavati /

vipratiṣe- dhācca yugmavacanasya /

tryavarāḥ tritvamavaraṃ saṅkhyā yeṣāṃ te tryavarāḥ /
etacca pitṛpitāmahaprapitāmahaviṣayam /
tataśca pitrādīnāṃ trayāṇāṃ pratyakaṃ trīn pañca vā na punassaptādīn, dvo daive pitṛkārye trīnekaikamubhayatra vā /
bhojayetsusamṛddho'pi na prasajyeta vistare //

nanvasmin manuvacane'pitṛkārye trīn'ityuktvā'na prasajyeta vistare'ityuktaṃ, tatkimiti'pca vā'ityuktam?ucyate-ayugmāṃstryavarāniti sūtrakāravacanāt /
evaṃ tarhi'ekaikamubhayatra vā'iti viruddhaḥ /
na;tasyānu kalpatvāt /
atra yadyapi mātrādibhyaḥ pṛthageva piṇḍadānadarśanaṃ, tathāpi tāsāṃ pṛthagbrāhmaṇabhojanaṃ na bhavati, hemābhimarsanayoḥ pṛthaktvādarśanāt, pitṛmātrarthabrāhmaṇasaṅkhyāsaṅkalane satyayugmatvavirodhāt, ācārābāvācca /
api ca--
aṣṭakāsu ca vṛddhau ca gayāyāṃ ca mṛte'hani /
mātuśśrāddhaṃ pṛthakkuryādanyatra patinā saha //
iti manuvacanādaṣṭakādibhyo'nyatra māsiśrāddhādau pṛthaktvābhāvasspaṣṭa evāvagamyate /
iha ca sūtrakārabhāṣyakārābyāmanuktamapi viśvadevārtha yugmānāṃ bhojanaṃ kartavyam'dvau daive'iti manuyājñavaklyābhyāmuktatvāt, piśācā rākṣasā yakṣā bhūtā nānāvidhāstathā /
vipralumpanti sahasā śrāddhamārakṣavarjitam /
tatpālanāya vihitā viśvedevāssvayambhuvā //
ityādi jhāgaleyavacanāt, avigītaśiṣṭācārācca /
yadā tveka eva brāhmaṇo labhyate, tadā taṃ pitrādyarthameva bhojayet, pradhānatvāt /
aṅgabhūtasya tu vaiśvadevasya yadyekaṃ bhojayecchrāddhe daivaṃ tatra kathaṃ bhavet /
annaṃ pātre samuddhṛtya sarvasya prakṛtasya ca //
devatāyatane kṛtvā tatra śrāddhaṃ prakalpayet /
prāsyedagnau tadannaṃ tu dadyāddvā brahmacāriṇe //
(va.11-30,31) iti vasiṣṭhoktavidhinānuṣṭhānam /
nanu ca--
mātāmahānāmapyevaṃ tantraṃ vā vaiśvadaivikam /

mātāmahanāmapyevaṃ śrāddhaṃ kuryādvicakṣaṇaḥ /
mantrohena yathānyāyaṃ śeṣaṃ mantravivarjitam //

pṛthaṅmātāmahānāṃ ca vaiśvadevasamanvitam /
kurvīta bhaktisampannaṃ tantraṃ vā vaiśvadaivikam //

iti yājñavalkyaviṣṇusmṛtyoḥ viṣṇupurāṇe ca vidhidarśanāt mātāmahaśrāddhamapi nityamevāvagamyate /
tatkimiti sūtrakārabhāṣyakārau na brūtaḥ?
ucyate-naiva tatrāpi smṛtyantareṣu pitryavatsarvasyaiva jīvato dvijasyāvaśyaṃ mātāmahaśrāddhamapi niyamena kartavyamiti vidhitsitam /
kṛte
abhyudayaḥ, #karaṇe na pratyavāya iti /
kasya tarhi niyamena kartavyamiti vidhiriti cet;yaḥ putrikākṛtāyā āsurādivivāho- ḍhāyā vā putro mātāmahena saha mātussāpiṇḍyaṃ karoti, tasya mātāmahaśrāddhaṃ niyatameva, akarame ca pratyavāyaḥ /
māsiśrāddhe tu mātuḥ pṛthak
śrāddhābhāvānmātāmahaśrāddhāṃśabhāgitvopapatteḥ /
atha vā yo dauhitro'putrasya mātāmahasyākhilārtahārī tasyaitacchrāddhaṃ niyatam /
yathāha laugākṣiḥ--
śrāddhaṃ mātāmahānāṃ ca avaśyaṃ dhanahāriṇā /
dauhitreṇa vidhijñena kartavyaṃ vidhivatsadā //
iti /
imamevārtha bārucirapyāha-
'yasmin pakṣe aputro mātāmahaḥ, putrikāsutaścākhiladravyahārī, tasmin pakṣe tasya piṇḍadānaniyamaḥ'ityādinā granthena /
mātāmahaśrāddhaprayogaśca smṛtyantarebhyo nyāyatasca pratyetavyaḥ /
tasmāt sarvasya dhauhitrasya pitryavat kartavyameveti niyamābhāvatsūtrakārabhāṣyakārau na brūtaḥ // 2 //
