Dvarapalikas painted on the pillar at the entrance of the Sannidhi of Jnanambika. The one on left side is holding right hand in Suci Hasta and left hand is holding a Gada. Where as the one on right side is keeping her left hand in Suci Hasta and her right hand is holding a Gada or mace. Dvarapalakas guard the entrance to the Garbha Graha of male deities and the Dvarapalikas guard the entrance to the Grabha Graha of female deity.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
