Above is the sculpture of a lady not very clear due to erosion. Her Siras is in Udvahita, her Urah is in Sama, her Parsva is in Samunnata on right and Nata on left side. Kati is in Udvahita on left side. Right hand is on the Uru holding some object and left hand is folded towards shoulder holding something else. Right Uru is in Valana, right Janu is slightly bent, right Jangha is in Nata, right Pada is in Agratala. Left leg is straight, left Uru is in Stambhana, left Janu is in Sama, left Jangha is unbent and left Pada is in Sama. Seems to be performing Urudvrtta Cari–
“The heel of one foot in Agratalasancara is placed facing the back of the other foot, or the reverse is done.”

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
