Description of the photo

A lady in Ayata Sthana, right hand in Caturasra near the shoulder and the left hand is in Uru Hasta. Siras in Ancita, Urah in Sama, Parsva is straight, Kati is raised in Udvahita on right side. Both the Pada are in Sama, right leg is straight and left leg is at ease. The typical huge buns on the side of the head seemed to be the popular hair style.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
