This is a sculpture of Siva and Parvati in an Abhanga posture . Both Siva and Parvati are in Ayata Sthana.Siras of both Siva and Parvati are in Sama, Urah is also in Sama, right Kati is in Udvahita, weight is on right leg, Janu and Jangha are straight and unbent. Right Pada is also in Sama. Slight knee bend is there. Left Pada is also in Sama turned a little to the side in Tryasra. Siva has 4 hands and Parvati has 2 hands. One right hand of Siva is in Abhaya Hasta, the othe right hand is holding Parasu. One left hand of Siva is around Parvati and the other left hand is holding Agni. Right hand of Parvati is holding Padma, her left hand is in Lata Hasta.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
