Description of the photo

In this sculpture the girl is standing in front Svastika and holding a garland above her head. Siras is in Ancita–bent to left, right side Parsva is in Samunnata and left side is in Nata, Urah is in Udvahita, left side Kati is in Udvahita, left Uru is in Stambhana, left Janu is in Sama, left Pada is in Sama. Right Janu is slightly raised in Unnata, right, and right Pada is in Agratalasancara. Right hand is holding a garland and is in Musti Hasta and left hand is placed on Uru and is in Ardhacandra as Uru Hasta.This sculpture is again not a fine one, it has got eroded with time. But the pose is clear. One cannot identify any Cari or Karana.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
