Description of the photo

There is a figure of deity Rajagopala on the same pillar. Here Krsna is shown as a cowherd holding a whip in his hand. His is wearing a turban, the ends of the Dhoti robe are shown near the left elbow. The position of his left hand shows his hand is resting on a cow (not visible here). On his right side is Rukmini and on his left side is Satyabhama.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
