Description of the photo

Figure of a dancing girlshowing movement. Her Kati seems to show a movement like Recita or Chinna. Her Siras is in Ancita, Parsva is in Nata on left and Samunnata on right, Urah [uras] is in Sama, Kati is in Udvahita on left, right hand is in Lata and left hand is in Uru. Right leg is at ease, right Pada is slightly lifted from the heel (Agratala). Her right hand is kept in Sandamsa.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
