Description of the photo
Here on this pillar on the eastern side we see a Nartaki who is in Ayata Sthana, exhibiting Abhanga. Siras and Urah [uras] are in Sama, Parsva is unbent, Kati is in Udvahita on right, right hand is in Lata, left is holding a Padma. Right Uru is in Stambhana, right Janu is in Sama, right Jangha is unbent, right Pada is in Sama. Left leg is kept at ease, left Pada is in Sama.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
