Description of the photo
On top of the same pillar is the sculpture of a dancing girl who is standing gracefully with a front Svastika. Right leg is straight and unbent. Left leg is forming the Svastika. Her Siras is in Utksipta, Urah [uras] is in Sama, Parsva is in Nata on right and Samunnata on left, Kati is in Udvahita on right. Left Pada is in Agrtala and left Jangha is in Avartita. Cannot recognise any Cari or Karana.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
