On the left side of this dancing lady are the sculptures of a Rsi holding a stick and a parrot sitting on his shoulder. There is also a figure of Vennai Krsna who is seated in Sukhasana with one leg folded and the other hanging down. He is holding butter in both his hands. Right hand facing up and left hand facing down-the butter is on his lap.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
