Description of the photo

Above the horse rider is the sculpture of Rajagopala Svami with Rukmini and Satyabhama on his right and left. Rajagopala Svami is holding a stick with a whip with his right hand. His left hand is resting on a cow behind. He is standing in Ayata Sthana exhibiting Abhanga. Siras, Urah [uras], Parsva are all in Sama. Kati is also in unbent. Right leg is straight and unbent. Left leg is kept at ease. Rukmini is on his right in Ayata Sthana, her right hand is in Lata and her left hand is holding a Padma. Satyabhama is on left. She is in Avahittha Sthana, her left hand is in Lata where as her right hand is holding a Padma.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
