Description of the photo
On the west side we can see a side view of the horse rider. There is a dancing girl below who is holding a mirror. The figure of the girl is marvellous. Her Siras is in Ancita, Parsva is in Nata on the right and Samunnata on the left. We can even see she is glancing towards the audience and not into the mirror. Urah [uras] is in Udvahita, Kati is raised on the left side. Her left foot is straight and unbent, her Left Uru is in Stambhana, her left Janu is in Sama, her left Pada is in Sama. Her right leg is in front Svastika. Her right Janu is bent, right Jangha is in Avartita, left Pada is in Suci. Her right hand is holding a mirror Sandamsa or Arala. Her left hand is putting a tilak on her forehead.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
