Description of the photo
A beautiful sculpture of a dancer holding lotus with her right hand. Her Siras is slightly bent to her right–Ancita, Parsva is in Sama, Urah [uras] is in Sama, Kati is in Udvahita on the right. Right hand is holding a Padma, left hand is on the Uru. Right leg is absolutely straight and unbent. Right Uru is in Stambhana, right Janu is in Sama and right Pada is also in Sama. Left leg is crossed in front Svastika. Left Jangha is in Avartita, left Pada is in Agratala.You can see Varadaraja Perumal to her left.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
