Description of the photo

This is again a sculpture of a lady performing the Baddha Cari. Siras is in Nihancita, Urah [uras] is in Sama, Parsva is also in Sama, Kati is in Udvahita on the right side. Right side Uru is in Valana, Janu is in slightly Unnata, right Jangha is in Avartana, right Pada is in Agratala. The lady is wearing heeled slippers. The left leg is unbent. Left Uru is in Stambhana, Janu and Pada are in Sama. She could also be doing merely the Chinna movement of the Kati.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
