Image title: Figure 64. Harinapluta Karana

Description of the photo

Siras is in Ancita, Urah [uras] seems to be in Sama, even the Parsva is in Nata on right and Samunnata on left, Kati is in Udvahita on right. Both the hands are in front of the chest, the right hand is in Pataka and the left hand seems to be in Katakamukha. Left leg is in Ardhakuncita, right leg is lifted behind to head level. Left Pada is in Sama facing the side, left Jangha is in Nata, left Janu is in Ardhakuncita. The right Pada is Kuncita, right Jangha is in Parivrtta, right Uru is in Udvartana.

This can be identified as Harinapluta Karana no.83 according to which “After observing Atikranta Cari one jumps and stops and one of the shanks is bent and thrown up.” Here we see the shank thrown up backwards. Nothing is mentioned about the hands. According to Sarngadeva, “The hands are to assume Dola and Katakamukha.” It is used to show a deer’s leap. The right hand seems to be ready to stretch into a Dola. This figure denotes the stage before extending the hand. The leg is already lifted back before putting it forward as in Atikranta Cari. When performed continuously the movement looks like a fast moving hopping deer.
