Siras is in Ancitas lightly bent to the left. Parsva is in Nata on left and Samunnata on right. Kati is raised on right and is showing a movement like Chinna. The hands are in front of the chest–the right one in Caturasra and the left one seems to be in Pallava. The posture is Mandala Sthana though not deep seated, feet are in Tryasra. The bend of the body to left and raise of the hips on the right side indicate the turn.

This can be identified as Karana 11 i.e. Katicchinna. The bend of the Kati shows that the body is ready for a turn. Abhinavagupta explains, “The movement begins with an Atikranta Cari followed with a Brahmari through Chinna of waist.” Since the Natya Sastra doesn”t mention Atikranta, this can be performed in both ways with or without Atikranta Cari.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
