Sri Rama is the 7th Avatara of Lord Visnu. He incarnated as the son of King Dasaratha, the king of Ayodhya, in the Treta Yuga. As Lord Rama he was the ideal human being adhering to Dharma. He was the ideal son, ideal brother to Laksmana, Bharata and Satrughna, ideal husband to Sita and an ideal father to Lava and Kusa. Here we can see Lord Rama holding the bow Kodanda with his left hand and arrow - Bana with his right. To his left is Sita Devi and below we can see Hanuman his devotee.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
