Sandagiri Stupa—It is believed that the Sandagiri Stupa was built by king Mahanaga in the 2nd centuty BCE. The Sandagiri monastery complex was the first monastery complex built in Rohana. This stupa was built in the village of Chandana where the Ashtapala Bodhi was planted during the reign of king Devanampiyatissa. Archaeological excavations have confirmed that the ancient stupa consisted of a series of canopies. Ven. Thiranagama Rathanasara Thero mentions in his book, "Thissamaharamaya" that this stupa was built by enshrining right handed conch shell (dakshinavarti shankh) and seven Relics of the Buddha donated to the King Devanampiyatissa by the Emperor Ashoka. The Mahawansa states that the pinnacle of 60 feet high stupa had been made upon a square shaped platform of 196 x 196 feet high and 6 feet from the ground, during the reign of King Voharika Tissa (214 - 236 CE). The Mahawansa further states that, the stupa was reconstructed by King Vijayabahu the Great (1055 -1110 CE) during the Polonnaruwa period.

Chandaragiri obelisk—2nd century BCE Chandaragiri obelisk built by King Mahanaga. Chandagiri Monastery was the first ashram block built in Ruhunu. Archaeological excavations have made it clear that this obelisk, which was installed in Chandana village during the reign of Thiesan II, had been carved in the shape of an octagonal bodhi tree. This obelisk is constructed with the (Dakshinavartha) Valampurichangu and (Sarva Tathunvahansela) seven parts given by Ashoka Pharasa to Thiesan Aran II. The 60 feet tall obelisk, built on a 196 × 196 platform measuring 6 feet above the ground, is mentioned in the Mahavamsa during the period of Chatra Voharika Tissa (fixed year 214 236). In the Polonnaruwa era, King Maha Vijayabahu (fixed year 1055 1110) re-constructed the stupa.
