Gallery information:

These photographs are from the “(Palmleaf) Manuscript gallery” of the Odisha state museum in Bhubaneswar; starting with the Orissa tradition of Talapatra: using palm-leafs for artistic and writing purposes (i.e., talapatra-citra or patachitra or patta-chitra). The Palmleaf Manuscript Gallery preserves over 37,000 rare documents, showcasing the profound intellectual and artistic heritage of ancient Odisha and South-East Asia. Using iron styluses on abundant palmleaf, ivory, and bamboo, these manuscripts cover diverse subjects like the Vedas, medicine, and mathematics.
