This touch object is of Dancing Girl, from the Harappan Civilization. It is a replica of 4500 years old statute of dancing girl which is displayed in the National Museum's Indus valley gallery. This statuette is cast in bronze, using a technique known as the lost wax process. The Dancing Girl is one of the very earliest examples of this technique. She was found in 1926, in the Harappan town of Mohenjo Daro, what is now the Sindh province in Pakistan.

This is an image of a young woman with large eyes, flat nose and bunched curly hair neatly tied in a low loose bun at the back of her neck - all featured in an artistic way. Her left leg is bent at the knee, right arm bent at the elbow resting on her hip and the other hand holding a bowl suggests a dancing pose.
She wears a small necklace with three large pendant beads. The heavy armlets on her left hands and the forearm ringed with bangles match her elaborate neck ornament.

This 6 inches tall sculpture of Dancing Girl is a work of art, as the artist has captured the youthful charm of the dancer and at the same time evoked many mysterious qualities, leaving us to wonder -who she was, and what was her position in society?

यह स्पर्शणीय कलाकृति मोहनजोदड़ों से प्राप्त नर्तकी की कॉस्य प्रतिमा की प्रतिकृति है। 4500 वर्ष पुरानी मूल कलाकृति राष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय की हड़प्पा गैलरी में प्रदर्शित है। यह लघुप्रतिमा काँसे में लॉस्ट वैक्स पद्धति में ढाली गई है नर्तकी की यह कॉस्य प्रतिमा इस तकनीक से निर्मित आरंभिकतम उदाहरणों में से एक है। यह लघुप्रतिमा 1926 में मोहनजोदड़ो से प्राप्त हुई थी। हड़प्पा वर्तमान में पाकिस्तान के सिंध प्रांत में है। नर्तकी की इस लघुप्रतिमा की बड़ी-बड़ी आँखें और चपटी नाक है इसके घुंघराले बाल गर्दन के पीछे ढीले जुड़े में बंधे हुए हैं इन सभी को बड़े ही कलात्मक ढंग से निरूपित किया गया है। नर्तकी का बायां पैर घुटने पर झुका हुआ है। कोहनी पर मुड़ी हुई इसकी दाहिनी भुजा नितंब पर टिकी हुई है। नर्तकी ने मोतियों वाली तीन बड़ी लटकनों से युक्त छोटा-सा हार पहना हुआ है। इसके बायें हाथ के भारी कंगन और चूड़ियों से भरी हुई भुजाएँ हार से मेल खाती हैं। नर्तकी की 6 इंच की इस लघुप्रतिमा में कलाकार ने नर्तकी के आकर्षण को ही नहीं दर्शाया है अपितु अनेक रहस्यमय प्रश्नों को भी सामने ला खड़ा किया है जैसे कि वह कौन थी और समाज में उसका क्या स्थान था?
