Sarfoji belonged to the line of Maratha kings of Tanjore who ruled the region from 17th to the 19th century CE. In this sculpture, Sarfoji wears a long choga garment and a sash over his shoulders reaching his knees. He is also wearing a turban in the Maratha fashion. His hands are joined in anjali mudra, signifying devotion.

सरफोजी का संबंध 17वीं से 19वीं शताब्दी तक तंजौर पर शासन करने वाले मराठा राजाओं से था। इस प्रतिमा में सरफोजी ने लंबा चोगा और घुटनों तक लंबा उत्तरीय पहना हुआ है। उन्होंने मराठा शैली की पगड़ी भी पहनी हुई है। सरफोजी की इस प्रतिमा के हाथ अंजलि मुद्रा में जुड़े हुए हैं।

Is pratima mein Saraphoji ne lamba choga aur ghutnon tak lamba uttarīya pehna hua hai. Unhone Maratha shaili ki pagdi bhi pehni hui hai. Saraphoji ki is pratima ke hath anjali mudra mein jude hue hain.

These photographs are from the section “Bronze images” (kamsya) within the National Museum of New Delhi (India). Bronze images, small for domestic shrines or larger and hollow, are made using the lost wax process (madhuchista-vidhana). Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. The oldest group of bronze sculptures from the Indian subcontinent date back to the 3rd millennium B.C.E.
