自找苦吃 [zì zhǎo kǔ chī] [zi zhao ku chi]—
Bringing trouble or annoyance upon oneself. For example: "Don't wade into this muddy water (淌這混水 [tang zhe hun shui]), it's thankless and you'll only be asking for trouble (自討苦吃 [zi tao ku chi])." Also expressed as "asking for punishment oneself (自找罪受 [zi zhao zui shou])."
自找苦吃:自己招惹麻煩、困擾。如:「你不要淌這混水,那可是吃力不討好,自討苦吃。」也作「自找罪受」。
