中陰法事 [zhong yin fa shi]—The means used (by the deceased' s family) for ensuring a favorable reincarnation during the intermediate stage, between death and reincarnation.

中陰法事 [zhong yin fa shi]—Bardo Rites—[Ritual] In the human intermediate state (中陰 [zhong yin]), the body is in a child-like form (童子之形 [tong zi zhi xing]), and one must be reborn in their place of rebirth (本生處 [ben sheng chu]) within a period of seven days. If, at the end of seven days, the conditions for rebirth (生緣 [sheng yuan]) are not met, the intermediate state continues for another seven days, and one is reborn in their place of rebirth at the end of the second seven-day period. This seven-day period continues, with the longest duration being up to the seventh period. At the end of the seventh period, one is certainly reborn somewhere. Therefore, these forty-nine days (seven times seven days) are called the intermediate state. During this time, the rites performed for the deceased are called Bardo Rites. It is abbreviated as intermediate state. While the conditions for rebirth are not yet determined, it is hoped that through the power of merits for the deceased (追福 [zhui fu]), one may be reborn in a good realm (善處 [shan chu]). The Suiyuan Wangsheng Sutra (隨原往生經 [sui yuan wang sheng jing]) states: "When a person dies, their body in the intermediate state is like that of a child, and their karma (merits and demerits) is not yet settled. One should perform meritorious deeds, wishing for the spirit of the deceased to be reborn in the Pure Lands (淨土 [jing tu]) of the ten directions." The lower scroll of the Brahma Net Sutra (梵網經 [fan wang jing]) states: "On the day of the death of one's parents, siblings, Upadhyaya, or Acharya, and on the third seven-day period, fourth seven-day period, up to the seventh seven-day period (i.e., 21st, 28th, up to 49th day), one should also recite, read, and expound on Mahayana sutras and Vinaya texts."

中陰法事—【儀式】人間之中陰,身如童子之形,且必以七日為一期而生於本生處。若於七日之終,未得生緣,則更續中陰七日,至第二七日之終而生於本生處。如此七日為一期,最長者至第七期,第七期之終,必生於一處矣。因之此七七日間稱曰中陰,在此時為追薦之法事,是曰中陰法事。略稱曰中陰。於生緣未定之間,希以追福之力生於善處也。隨原往生經曰:「命終之人在中陰中身如小兒,罪福未定。應為修福,願亡者神,使生十方淨土。」梵網經下曰:「父母兄弟和上阿闍梨亡滅之日,及三七日,四七日,乃至七七日,亦應讀誦講說大乘經律。」

[yi shi] ren jian zhi zhong yin, shen ru tong zi zhi xing, qie bi yi qi ri wei yi qi er sheng yu ben sheng chu. ruo yu qi ri zhi zhong, wei de sheng yuan, ze geng xu zhong yin qi ri, zhi di er qi ri zhi zhong er sheng yu ben sheng chu. ru ci qi ri wei yi qi, zui zhang zhe zhi di qi qi, di qi qi zhi zhong, bi sheng yu yi chu yi. yin zhi ci qi qi ri jian cheng yue zhong yin, zai ci shi wei zhui jian zhi fa shi, shi yue zhong yin fa shi. lue cheng yue zhong yin. yu sheng yuan wei ding zhi jian, xi yi zhui fu zhi li sheng yu shan chu ye. sui yuan wang sheng jing yue: "ming zhong zhi ren zai zhong yin zhong shen ru xiao er, zui fu wei ding. ying wei xiu fu, yuan wang zhe shen, shi sheng shi fang jing tu." fan wang jing xia yue: "fu mu xiong di he shang a du li wang mie zhi ri, ji san qi ri, si qi ri, nai zhi qi qi ri, yi ying du song jiang shuo da cheng jing lu."
