重心 [zhòng xīn] [zhong xin]—
1. In physics, the point at which the resultant force of gravity acts on an object is called the "center of gravity" (, zhòngxīn). Draft History of the Qing Dynasty, Volume 27, Treatise on Astronomy II: "The Cheng Yi platform (承儀之臺 [cheng yi zhi tai], Chéng Yí zhī Tái) is approximately four chi (尺 [chi]) high, with a central column planted to secure the center of gravity (, zhòngxīn) of the instrument, allowing it to rotate left and right, up and down, and tilt in any direction, hence it is also known as the Bai You Instrument (百游儀 [bai you yi], Bǎi Yóu Yí)."
2. In mathematics, the common intersection point of the three medians of a triangle is called the "centroid" (, zhòngxīn). For example, "The distance from the centroid (, zhòngxīn) of a triangle to a vertex is twice the distance from the centroid (, zhòngxīn) to the midpoint of the opposite side."
3. As a metaphor, it refers to the center or main part of something. For example, "He places almost all of the focus (, zhòngxīn) of his life on his career."
